Thinking about my favourite figures and looking at different companies, I think that it all depends on the ranges and not on the companies: for example in my opinion the " waffen ss", " (some of) germans bulge ", " indians","( some of) afrika korps" by KC are the best..Really unbeatable. While I find " greeks","sons of the empire" not so well done and too flashy colours.....Other example: I don' t like "germans", " afrika korps" by First legion as I find they have wrong faces, small helmets, wrong colours... On the other hand I think their "medievals", " napoleonics" are really well done...So I think a company succeeds in a range but not in another that another company does better...Do you agree?

I agree.Britains does probably the best Zulu range out there.Their ACW is also great but I'm sure some will differ with me on that but at this stage it has to be #1.Collectors Showcase and Conte has the best animation IMO.

I could be wrong but maybe the variation in ranges results from them being contracted out to different manufacturers.

I personally prefer K & C's "flashy colors", it makes a K & C display look more alive and vibrant than other makes.

I agree with preferring the K/C paint scheme. Though I will buy other mfg's tanks, usually they will be repainted to be K/C like. Most figures that I collect tend to be gloss. Michael

I think the range does make the difference. For instance, I love the French 1914 range that KC produce, very accurate and colorful, as they actually were. Same with their SOE range. However, I find that their Waffen SS camo patterns too bright, and the same with some of the Normandy camo on their German vehicles. I would prefer them to be more muted, as Collector's Showcase on their figures and vehicles. Each maker has it's own strengths and weaknesses, so I pick and choose across the spectrum of several makers. -- Al

I agree with you about the ranges; but KC waffen ss colours are not bright, they are exactly like the original tissue and also the shapes of the patterns....I checked photos. KC make other ranges too bright for me and sometimes not the good colour ( like the italians in africa), but waffen ss and bulge, they caught the right colour for me...Collector showcase' s waffen ss colour is more darker, but their last Fallschirmjager I really don' t like them....And raiders colour is wrong in pattern and bright . I just like a very accurate waffen ss colour CS: the panther' s commander smoking cigarette.

Hello Poppo.

Help me out here bud, exactly what is a wrong face??? Im not sure any of the folks who partook in WW2 could correct their faces per se as I do believe, good bad or indifferent we are born with our faces as they are :confused:{sm4}

I do believe I know what you are mean perhaps arent satisfied with the sculpting yes? Many collectors have levelled the same criticism.

My thoughts:

Ancient world- Aeroart, though Im thinking if we are bringing the price down, gotta go with FL on Rome, East of India, even though they arent in business (i hear, i dont actually know), I think they did the best Greeks and KC seems to be the only game around for Egyptians. East of India did Persians.

Medieval world- I gotta go with FL Crusaders range.

British military history- gotta go Britains, just too much heritage, Zulu war, War along the nile, etc.

AWI- Pound for pound I think Britains has really pulled ahead slightly over KC and FL

ACW- Seems like FL is the frontrunner here by a nose though Collectors Showcase seems to be closing the gap. Britains also has a rabid ACW fan base too

Napoleonic- Dealers choice{sm4}

American West- Either KC or Blackhawk. They did a really nice Custer range. KC's are quite colorful and exciting poses

WW1- Still give the nod to Britains- again, a corporate heritage thing there

WW2- KC, That's their bread and butter. I still think TG has some exciting offerings though

Orient- KC's SOHK line is simply superb and the colors are truly awe inspiring. Their IC collection is first rate as well.

My two cents- for what its worth

Hey Lancer- any thoughts on Heco for WW1???? {sm4}{sm4}

Interesting....And I agree with you about "Blackhawk" Custer range. I will buy one of the indians left in my usual dealer' s shop to add to my KC indians {sm3}

That one thing that put me off kc stuff is there to clean and flesh tone is to light and like figarti gritty look more but that just my opinion :)
