Howard was very disapointed when the new 8th Army Australian figures were release becuse they didn't have thier correct kit!!!

It seems that when they were in the Q-Store in HK, they were issued with British Black Boots..... and the Aussie Commander (Howard) insisted they be turned out in brown boots.

His lataest reinforcements for the "Rats of Tobruk" were forces to endure a cross country journey to the West Coast to my Q-Store to be re-issued with the correct kit.

They have just passed the Commander's inspection and will be heading back over the vast Nullarbour Plain to Victoria next week to rejoin thier unit.

Before leaving I'm sure another inspection (and beer drinking contest) with Wayne will happen this weekend, so I'm sure the journey home will be enjoyable :tongue:

Will pop over for a gander mate,Howard sent me a email and he is very pleased they do look better IMO great figures.

John mate,
Outstanding workmanship. Looks like another platoon will be flying in with Aussie Post to be rekitted very soon. Let the seige of Tobruk begin.
Just saw the photos of Wayne's repainted WS101 Sdkfz 252 to field grey. Fantastic job. Congratulations Obee.
Cheers Howard

John,
Having seen your good work, those black boots may not be tolerated any longer, prehaps another platoon from Qld may seek a refit at your Q store.

Let's put it this way...months of fighting and the oppresive heat of the desert sands brought toll on equipments, uniforms and boots. With worn out shoe botoms it's taking their toll on their already blistered soles!

What a relief that on the way back to base, they saw dead Foreign Legionaires with fresh boots still on. Better out of regulation than endure and feel the desert heat on their soles.

Looking at the Treefrog catalog, I notice a similarity with the Foreign Legion's boots. Now I need to repaint mine too. Thanks for the "heads-up."

Well done on the boot colour match John, my diggers arrived last week and i may send the two offending diggers that grabbed the wrong pair of boots over to you to get the correct set of boots! It won't be for a while tho as they have to wear out their current pairs....^&grin

Yeah i know but unfortunately i have something on this arvo and im going to be flat chat all day tomorrow as well! So im sorry mate, but no can do on the photo's.. :(

There will be no doubt plenty of photo's taken of the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Darwin so when i get a chance, i'll see if i can find some on the internet and then post on the forum. There is a yank destroyer in town (the USS Chafee) for the event as well.

Very nice they look 100% better with the correct footwear, I wonder how they slipped through the K&C net in the wrong issue?

John,
If it isn't giving away a trade secret, what paint/colour mix & etc did you use on the boots? Might have a go myself.
Thanks mate.
Wayne.

Wayne.

No trade secrets, I used 4 colours!

HUMBROL
#93 sand ? for the boot leather
#160 red/brown for the sole of the boot
?? linen for the boot laces
black for the fine outline.

Let me know how you get on, and show us the result,

John
