The quality of the paint work may be the reason whatever people say about the subject matter the finishing on the figures is superb.
Do you/your wife collect the matt or gloss range of SOHK? My wife prefers the matt versions.

Jeff,
Re LAH, rather than the admittedly attractive paint jobs, I think it’s more the idea of mass parades and messianic (is that a real word?) personality cults surrounding totalitarian political systems that presses the button. Quite apart from Hitler and his gang of thugs, I'm thinking Mussolini, Peron, Stalin, Franco, Wilhelm II, Galtiari, etc. here. Even the YUK had our own version in Moseley and the unmissed Saddam also knew how to press that same button. I'm also banned from saying anything derogatory about Mao, but the same comments hold.
As for the subject matter,
The Boss's LAH display has caused a few embarrassing moments. Before the entire collection was packed away, I had a hard time explaining to 1st time visitors to our apartment that, no I'm not a neo-Nazi...!!!
Mind you after admiring the other ranges and displays we have, it was always the LAH that they gravitated back to, which kinda proves my point about the fascination level.
Must be an aging hippy right enough.
We both prefer the matt versions of the SOHK range. It was the incredible improvement in realism and quality that attracted me (read - sucked me) into the world of modern toy soldiers. Was never interested in the glossies but became increasingly disenchanted with the "rivet-counters" in the modelling community and drifted away from the miniature figurine hobby for many years. So I'm really glad that excellent manufacturers such as K&C, NMA, Figarti, John Jenkins, etc. dragged me back into it with the fantastic ranges they offer.
I'm also delighted to have discovered such a vibrant community in the Treefrog forum. Some real characters here - that's for sure. Reminds me of some of the discussions in our apartment.
"Staleen was a good man, Hally Daahleeng"
"Och, away an' no be so daft"
Cheers
