I really haven’t spoken on this yet.

World economy, recession length and severity, US currency issues, rising living standards/ inflation and material costs in China have spelled the end to the TS Golden age (price & choices).

Fellow collectors be angry be very angry and vent it and go ahead follow through with your threats. It’s your right!

However, please remember some events and forces are greater than our little hobby unfortunately.

King and Country is the market leader and have earned it for so many reasons. It’s not good for the market or collectors these recent price increases have happened. Sure, they’re many choices and many offer great value and quality.

However, if KC loses significant market share and the rest of market players can’t pick up the slack (despite their best efforts) then the market contracts and WE ALL LOSE. NOT GOOD FOR US!

My reaction to this is to buy less and be selective. But stay in the hobby! It’s too much fun!!! Unfortunately, I can no longer afford to “have my cake and eat it too”. I have to choose now.

So unless manufacturers are willing to create “start-ups” (this requires more capital$$) in SE Asia, India or wherever, they only have 2 choices IMO.

1. Increase Prices/ Protect profits (beware of elasticity of demand affects)

2. Reduce Profit Margins keep most collectors, Andy, is right, “beware of repeating the mistakes of 21st Century”. Good value, good price OUT OF BUSINESS. I guess they didn’t serve the needs of their clients long term did they? So where is the optimum point?

Again, my reaction to this is to buy less and be selective on what I buy. But stay in the hobby. I can no longer afford to “have my cake and eat it too”. I have to choice now.

I would agree with you without blinking once that King&Country is the market leader in this industry. They have been around for approaching 30 years !!!!!! On top of that they produce so many different lines and "NEW" releases that easily makes them stand out from the rest.But.........There are some who complain about hearing their name mentioned and that there are other companies out there. Sure there are others out there, but when so many people involved in the hobby choose a particular brand as their own personal choice it is obvious who the industry leader is.
The more popular a company is the more it gets mentioned.

Can I ask where the info for being the market leader comes from? and there are many TS firms that have been in business for more than 30 years so that doesn't make you a market leader.

Thank you for asking.

My opinion is based on observations - In the last 5-10 years few people would agree that King & Country has sold more units across many eras than any other one company. Other manufacturers are likely influenced in pricing their product compared to King and Country. That is a market leader based on my observations.

If you are looking at the last 20, 30 or 40 years of Toy Soldier History, then King & Country can’t possibly be the leader; someone else is.

If you need facts and numbers to validate my opinion about market share before accepting it; no problem, I understand, please disregard my opinion.

My only quibble with this thread is the title; we have so many reality check threads going, Carlos should have called this one reality, reality check, Reality Check II or Son of Reality Check ^&grin

LOL, you have that one right Brad.

BTW, you going to Chicago?

Carlos

I think Wm. Britains has been around quite a few years :)rolleyes2:), is it possible that they might be the industry leader? Britains certainly has a huge variety of offerrings and a huge dealer network, not to mention that there seems to be quite a market for some of their older production. Obviously, I do not have a clue as to sales figures but I'll bet Britains doesn't do too bad. -- Al
