I just purchased the entire John Jenkin's Design Snow Shoes, excluding the Christmas set. I even bought the log cabin, Ranger hut and bush tent.

My Woodlands Scenic snow was delivered today so I made a little diorama and took my first photo.

I see why you guys like these figures so much. Great castings, detail and vivid painting. The sturdiest soldiers (lead weight) I have ever owned.

Your cooking now! I told you they were great and that you would love them.

Randy

Thank you Randy, thank you Bryan.

Randy, you might have to refresh me on your recycle method for this snow after a shoot. I see it goes fast.

Do you sift yours for reusing?

Michael

Michael your photo looks great!
Congratulations on the purchase.

I think the Snowshoes Series announcement was a point where a lot of folks took notice of JJD. It was for me.

Winter Campers Set SRR-07 and Winter Bush Tent Set SRR-08.

Traveling light was rugged work in the extreme cold conditions of the Adirondack Mountains, even for most experienced of Rangers.

A camp fire was a luxury in a climate that sometimes reached 40 degrees below zero.

Snow blindness, hypothermia, bleeding feet and frostbite were just a few of the problems incurred.

When the enemies position afforded a fire for a hot drink, it was a good night.

Thanks for the compliment on the photo Lenswerks,

I knew I was going into the French Indian War when I finished my castle.

I loved the Frontline and almost bought them.

They have such a large assortment of poses and I had been looking at them for a long time.

I think I picked the JJ's because I was sold on the snow and if not that, especially on the stories I read about the Rangers specifically.

So I guess just like you, the Snow Shoe's series pushed me over the edge and opened me up to the JJ's.

I'm sure I'll buy them all before I'm finished.

I was disappointed that nothing in this series was included in the upcoming new releases, but maybe I'll be surprised.

Mike from Sierra was talking about May, "but not a promise".

Evacuation of the Wounded Set SRR-05

Sleds were used for the removal of the wounded and injured if they could not walk.

The wounded soldier is named Charles Pelham, he is a fictional character from the retreat manuever.

He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother Set SRR-06

When sleds weren't available, evacuation was more difficult in the extreme climate.

The wounded were carried off with a method that was adopted from the Indians called a "tumpline".

A tumpline was a blanket that the wounded sat on and the wide part was laid across the carrier's head to help support his cargo.

The article said that the Iriqouis could transport their injured in this fashion for "hundreds of leagues".

A league is roughly estimated as 3 miles.

Another great work. That WS snow looks fabulous with your real trees.

Keep 'em coming!

Don't worry--should be 7 or 8 new BOS sets issued through January 2010.
John says definitely June if not May for next BOS release.

Nice seeing you getting in some play time with members of your Snowshoe series and featuring them in some great looking photos. Very nicely done by a Texan whose not crazy about the snow falls here in the northeast. Be a nice lad would you and send some of that southern Texas weather our way.:rolleyes::rolleyes:.......The Lt.

Well down here, we're just fascinated by this thing you Yankees call snow.;)

You said a heat wave was coming in two days, gonna be in the 50's, ,so not to worry. You'll be in shorts in no time Joeseppi.

The soldiers are pretty nice though, I'm really impressed with the weight and strength of the lead. Very sturdy compared to my early more fragile collections.

Again, Happy Belated,

Michael

Looks awesome Michael! Like you I started collecting JJD also just recently. I started with the Battle On The Monongahela and awaiting most of the sets to arrive. I found some of the older sold out sets so Im of to a good start. I was thinking about starting Battle on snow shoes they are wonderful looking figures. Just Battle on the Monongahela caught my eye more I suppose. Have fun with them! :)

I chose the cheaper route Jag, I think there are more Monongahela figures to collect, lol.

If you found some of the older set, you're pretty lucky I think. They are beautifully done, especially the 44th Regiment of Foot, very ornate.

Have fun and thanks,

Michael

Nice shots Mike! Yet another new range to collect? How long will it be before you get started on napoleonics????:p
I like the mini dios, I thought these were Randys picks for a minute.

Don't taunt or tempt me Tim, you know I have no willpower..

Thanks for the compliments though.

As it's similar to Randy's work, he should get any credit on photos, he's been nice enough to tutor me some.

You would have no reason to remember this, but the reason I joined this site was to sell my meager collection of Naps and Civil War.

It cost me a fortune to sell them, lol.

The Captive Set SRR-04 and 1 figure from SWI-03 with Ranger Hut from the Raid of St. Francis series.

The huts, usually found in a barracks complex, were assigned to the Rangers.

The Rangers also preferred to live in half faced camps of brush rather than tents like the rest of the army.

Michael

PS...Thanks for the backdrop Randy.

Woodland Indians Set SWI-03

Almost all the French allied Indians, that fought at the Battle of Snow Shoes, were Ottawas from the Ohio region.

The Ottawas were adept in this climate and were instrumental in helping the French win most of the early battles.

It was not until the Iroquois showed the English how to fight like the Indians did, that soon the English were winning most of the battles.

Randy, thanks for this backdrop too.
