My grandkids, 12 and 15, recently watched Saving Private Ryan and Midway. Was wondering what other WW2 movies that you cinema lovers think they'd enjoy? Hopefully not to gory but historically correct.

Thanks . . .

Some of the good ones recently have been Dunkirk, Greyhound (with Tom Hanks leading the fight against U-boats)and Hacksaw Ridge. Just check the rating for that last one but we use it at school. Slightly older - Memphis Bell. I wouldn't show Fury to kids, it's pretty rough in places and loses its way at the end.

A couple of classics that both tell good stories but also give young people an idea of what kinds of films were being made at the time are "Mrs Miniver" (1942) and "Battleground" (1949). A lot less gore made it into these productions than the two films you watched, and the story telling is also a bit more nuanced, particularly in "Battleground."

At the top of my list would be Kelly's Hero's. I think kids the ages of your grandchildren would appreciate the humor of the movie plus the actions scenes, which are not very graphic. Chris

I'll add A Bridge Too Far, but I think kids would really like Battle Of The Bulge. Yeah, the equipment weren't right, but who doesn't like a tank attack?

A BRIDGE TOO FAR and PATTON are my favorite WW II movies.

Others:

WHERE EAGLES DARE
THE GUNS OF NAVARONE
TORA! TORA! TORA!
THE GREAT ESCAPE
THE DIRTY DOZEN
THE ENEMY BELOW
KELLY'S HEROES
