Red Coats (1 Viewer)

If britain's decide to revisit this period again for some box sets id like to recommend doing the 42nd black watch regiment as they had a light company during this time or maybe the 60th royal american?

It would also be nice to get a box set of the new jersey regiment during this time period for the bluecoats collection?

Here's my nomination for a future Redcoat:

Sir John Caldwell an Irish Baronet and officer in the British 8th Regt. of Foot during the American Revolution

"Caldwell was assigned to Niagara and Detroit between 1774 and 1780. His position demanded frequent official visits to Indian villages, and he took part in several Indian councils. It was during these trips that he amassed a superb collection of Native objects, which he took back with him to Ireland in 1780. There an unknown artist painted him dressed in his North American finery, which he could wear with some confidence, having been elected a chief of the Ojibwa, allies of the British during the American Revolution."

Below is a uniform plate showing Caldwell during the AWI and the 18th C oil painting which it is based upon:

Nice plate Polar...(i have that book..full of beautiful uniforms), i'm a supporter of the Victorian army at the moment but i must admit that the AWI deserve a Redcoats & Bluecoats treatment, there are many uniforms and all beautiful, regimental distinctions , light companies,Grenadiers, militia ..i think i'll focus my next Redcoats purchases on the AWI, maybe the "vein openers" figure!

Do you have the Napoleonic and 19th Century uniform books in the series? I have the AWI and Naps but the 19th C is not available yet here in the states. It covers the 19th C Colonial Wars so I am looking forward to it.

I wish we would get some AWI and Naps navy figures from WB.

Hi Randy i have only the AWI book, for the napoleonic uniforms i preferred the Ospreys (it was a time when i was fascinated by the Dutch and Belgian armies and i read in the reviews that in this book these are missing) .For the 19th century uniforms book my favourite site lists it as not published:
http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/boo...edia-of-Military-Uniforms-of-the-19th-Century
By the way it seems very interesting, there are uniforms from the war of Unification here in Italy "The Risorgimento" and i hope that for the 150 years anniversary (2010) of the unification of Italy some producer will create a line of figures..but i'm off topic!

Hi Ken,

Is the Ceremonial section going to be absorbed into the Redcoats?

Not at the moment, but Richard and I have really been trying to create a standard look and size to the Matte and Gloss series so that there is more interchangeability within the different ranges.
I have always believed that the limited edition bands should be compatible with the Classic Gloss range. This is why the Museum collection in Matte is compatible with other Matte ranges too.

Thanks for your answer Ken. I am looking forward to seeing the Ceremonial figures updated to the new standard.

please excuse my ignorance but what is the walt keener memorial figure? & is it only available from a certain place?

Hello Craig,
Walt Keener was a very close friend to both Ken & Richard. He was a true gentleman scholar, who passionately loved toy soldiers and history. It was Walt that introduced me to Ken many years ago. Walt was my boss when I worked for the Detroit Historical Department at Historic Fort Wayne (a Civil War era fort near downtown Detroit). Walt used to reenact the 84th Foot Royal Highland Emigrants with Ken and that is why Ken chose the 84th to sculpt as a tribute. Walt was a truly good soul and is much missed by his friends.

I believe the figure is part of the general redcoats range and can be purchased at your local toy soldier shop come February.

All the Best,
Ericka

Thank you for taking the time to explain Ericka this truly is a spectacular figure & is a very fitting tribute to a very special man who has obviously shaped the way wbritains have developed to this day.
