Not sure if everyone reads the dispatches as closely as I do - however, it the last paragraphs Andy mentions that many old figures will be retired to make room for the new releases.

I bring this up because - those old retirements are figures which cost $21.00 & $25.00 alike. In the NAPOLEONICS - the Grenandiers Standing at Attention figures are a real steal compared to the cost of what has been released recently. As well as the Older Old Guard figures - at $25 - compared to the new releases at $32 - that $7 savings makes a difference when you buy 10-15 at a time like I do :D

Here in the USA - the threat (promise ;) ) of higher taxes, weaker economy and political turmoil only adds to the pressure of making smart choices in our hobby. I believe we are going to see a big retirement list soon of all these $20 something figures.

So pay attention to the RED FLARE ! Your warning has been issued and start making plans for this event.

Treefrog still has plenty of these figures available on their website - please see the friendly Preacher at the Door  - really you should check out your favorite ranges and see what is still available in the $20's - they will soon be gone !

Hi Ron,

I agree. It's time shop even if it isn't christmas yet.

I think that is good advice. Of course you have to balance those bargains against the newer items that you want more. Guns or butter mates, guns or butter.;):D

You had me worried Ron, I thought you were coming back from a mission with wounded crew!

Gary

PS - you bring up an EXCELLENT point!

Ron,
Right on.A new manufacturer whose product is as yet not on the market is asking for $33.00 for a single napoleonic figure.
As Andy said, this is not an exclusive U.S. hobby but an International one.
Sad to say, whatever happens elsewhere we are going down a "slippery slope".

Hi ron , hope you took my advice about spending your time lying on the beach in florida:D The Irish Bookmakers are never wrong:D:D

Actually - I guess I could give my FLORIDA REPORT

Understanding that I am NOT a big fan of Sen. John McCain - having worked with him before in the Armed Services Committee - as a loyal Republican I did try to do my part for the cause.

With that said - there were a few personal liberties taken by me while on the campaign trail

1) Saw WORLD SERIES - GAME TWO (the only game Tampa Bay won !) :D

2) Bought many cigars and eat great cuban food in Ybor City :)

3) Had friends come over from Orlando and went to the largest Shooting Range In Central Florida ! Got a BULLSEYE with a .50 Cal - Desert Eagle - [EMAIL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desert_Eagle"]

So all in all - a great trip for me ! ;)

Guys,

I've had to pull two posts on this thread that were completely political. As previoudly indicated by Shannon, the election is now over and let's move on. There are other forums out there on the web that address politics.

Lucky Bastid! Though I did have a lot of fun watching the series at some local Kensington bars.

You have not seen fans until you watch a Phillies game in Kenzo.

Hi Ron:

Glad you had a nice trip......can't mention where or why.:D

Glad you enjoyed Game and other activities.

Hope you arrived home safely......don't want to mention where.:D

Hope you post more photos of your collection soon.

You are rite about the older figures I have to start getting some of them. I do have all Napoleonic of course not 10- 15 each of them:). You must have some huge collection and lots of money to spend. Would also like to see pics of your collection. :D

Excuse me Brad but my post gave a link to a CNN article that simply noted the appointment and background of the proposed WH chief of staff. If you call that political I have some local area bridges for you mate.;):D If you want to sweep the deck completely then you should pull Dave's post as well since I was responding to his question, which I thought was informational.

This thread started off political right away, beginning with the title, so forget "sweeping the deck", it would probably be best if the whole thread were torpedoed and sunk.

I'm a bit naive, so how is the title "red flare" political? I've always taken two connotations from the phrase "red flare", first and most common is a sign of danger or alert. The other is the use of red flares from inbound Eigth Air Force bombers to denote that they had wounded personnel and were requesting immediate landing and assistance. Have I missed another common meaning?

Gary

That was the intent of the title of the tread - some people like to simply cause trouble

Sorry if my activities in Florida caused a stir - The World Series was great - really enjoyed Tropicana Field - Inside the Stadium there is a CIGAR BAR ! - Yes, full bar - leather couches - HD TV screens everywhere and plenty of Cigars to buy ! I admit to have spent the 6th inning in there :D

Back to the subject at hand - Yes, these older figures are great buys - better get some while the price is right. I believe we have talked about all the Under $100 WWII Vehicles out there still - they will be gone soon enough too !

Ron

This issue is being dealt with in PMs. Let's keep the talk to toy soldiers.

I don't know if I'll slip under the 'p' tripwire with this one. I'm also not sure how I stumbled onto this thread, because I don't collect matt figures. I find it understandable that politics has slipped into many threads at this time.

You look like a happy guy there at the ball game Capitolron. The wonderful thing about sports, toy soldier collecting, fishing etcetera is that it does not matter. It's all about fun. As to politics, I'm just glad we all get to vote, agree and disagree. It's wonderfully amazing.

Back to toy soldiers. With these high quality figures starting to cost so much maybe there will be a market out there for a level two of quality painting just like Britain and others had way back when. A 'lower' quality doesn't have to mean a bad paint job, simply one with less detail. Does this make money sense Andy, Richard?:)

A perceptive question Richard. We all love the highest quality product (think Masserati), but such are usually not for the masses.

My comment from another thread:

"Its worth noting that collectors share <some> blame for the higher prices in affect. Through constantly urging better, more realistic, accurate, detailed, nuanced, etc. products, we have essentially forced up manufacturing costs. Improvements are good, but each incremental "upgrade" ultimately raises the final price paid by the consumer/collector."
