Red Lancer (1 Viewer)

Some modest progress here.
I improved on the hands, adding knuckles and sculpted a glove. I also reattached the sword slings. I added six buttons to the coat tail and completed the cantle.

Worked a little on the shabraque. Added the imperial eagles (hello JB...:)) to the corners and started underlaying with blue and yellow. I added a sash to represent parade dress. Notice the sapper figure next to him (see separate thread).

Started painting the face of the Red Lancer. I had squeezed out too much red oil paint so it made sense to work on this and the Manchu Emperor at the same time.

Found this forlorn figure. Decided to see if I can do something about it. I checked the fit of the shabraque on the horse and the figure on the saddle. I then added some putty to the horse rump to and the buttocks to cover up the gaps.

Been having a wonderful time over the holidays to catch up on my modelling spree. I took out a whole lot of forlorn cavalry figures and this was one of them.

I worked on the left arm cradling the czapska helmet and finally added a left hand. The face was completely reworked. Also started to work on the saddlery and harness.

Added a crupper and the head harness. I bulked out his legs to fit the saddle snugly.

Started to paint the face. Thinned down the cheeks. I rebuilt part of the helmet.

Finally starting to work again on this piece. I filed down the inner legs to allow the figure to sit better. Started to paint the figure in oils. I am trying to get a rich yellow gold embroidery on the shabraque and uniform.

i dug out my book ref on the Red Lancers and decided to resculpt and repair some details.

The collar was thickened. The hair and moustache were resculpted and new ears added. The helmet tassels and cords were carefully added. The epaulette belt was restored.
The leopard skin cover was extended.

I've started to repaint the figure. Here's the painting ref on which this figure is based upon.

Further painting on the shabraque and the lancer. I resculpted the left eye lid.

I noticed that the Historex horse cheek was not proportional and resculpted that too. The bits were added.

More detail was added. Two tiny chinstrap bosses was added to both sides of the czapska.

I've decided to build up an iron-wrought fencing based on the Historex railings accessories.
These old mouldings are really showing their age and have misaligned seam lines.
Hence I made new railings from brass tubings and plastic strips. I cut off the Historex tips and glued them to the railings.

I've completed most of the painting and have fitted the rider, shabraque and horse together.
Note thet the horse is pinned to a piece of wood which in turn is epoxied to the base to give the figure some elevation. I am now building up the groundwork.

Resting on the base is the railing and post which will be used to frame the vignette.

I added a sword and slings and repainted the face.

The railings and post are almost completed.

Finally added the reins and this will be painted before I add the fencing and post.

If you look at the previous posting, you can see a gap between the seat and the figure. So I grinded the inner thighs and repainted the seat of his pants.

I found this piece lurking in the shadows and after a couple of days, managed to locate the fence, wall and pillar which was secreted elsewhere.

Just need to finish the painting and presentation.

The fencing was fixed to the wall. The fencing and column will be placed behi9nd the figure. This is current status of the piece.
