I have heard good things about this movie with Jennifer Lawrence. Will attempt to see it today and report back. Robin.

Saw it yesterday and enjoyed it. Just as importantly so did the better half.

Not as much action as Atomic Blonde but plenty of twists. More of a drama / thriller than an action movie.

Good to see Joel Edgerton getting a good leading role. At least we knew he was in it, not like his role in Netflix movie Bright.

There was a review on Daily Mail which was basically saying Jennifer Lawrence should not have made the movie because of the way it portrays women. The training of the Sparrows had some elements (actually probably all) that would be offensive to many. Some viewers might not feel comfortable with a few scenes. However the reality is this is what the Russians did and probably still are doing. I remember reading a book called Sexpionage a long time ago documenting many real cases where Sparrows or Swallows were used to subvert spies, embassy staff and businessmen etc.

I heard a reviewer on the radio give it a poor review but plenty of callers, including females, called in to disagree.

Never been a fan of Lawrence before but this one changed my mind. She certainly gives a good put down to one of her fellow trainees.

Ok seen it now, wow Jennifer Lawrence is amazing, so cool with her own skin. Will not be getting the DVD as it was too violent for my tastes. Robin.

Robin,
You mentioned a positive and a negative but did you like it ?

The violent scenes were fairly graphic and it is interesting to compare with Robert Shaw scene on the train in From Russia With Love or at the other end of the scale with something like Hacksaw Ridge. I think worse when the victim is in a helpless position unable to fight back so adds to the shock of the scene.

Author has contract for a second book.

Yep Brett, overall there were enough positives to make it a film worth seeing. I cannot say 'like' due to the graphic violence. Jennifer Lawrence as an actress would have been tested to the extreme in her portrayal of the character and she nailed it. When I like a film I usually follow up with a DVD, but for this one I am not desensitised enough yet. Robin.

Saw this movie. Jennifer Lawrence is a lovely looking woman. The plot was too ingenious, but I did like the way that she finally got her own back on her masters.
