Hi Tom,

Thats a cool looking bunch of Boxers. The guy with the long spear on the right side of the photo is one that I have seen with a ramming staff as well. I wonder if they did this guy with idea of mulitple uses?

Thanks for the photo Tom also the one in the red shirt with his arms on his hips was IDed recently as an Officer. I saw him in his original packaging on ebay about 2 weeks ago.

Dave

Tom, I agree with Dave that it's a very nice set.
I would have never ID them as Reeves though. The only Reeves that I'm familiar with are pained in matte colors.

Were they available in both finishes or does the time period when they were made determine the finish?

You hit it, time period determines it. Boxers are pseudo gloss! (they are a "dull gloss").

Now, that said, I have a number of Rev War that are Gloss. SO, truth be told, you can find them both ways, but majority of them are Matte.

Theres a convoluted answer for ya! Sorry.

Tom, So I take it that the oldest figures are gloss, then later semi gloss then most current matte. Is this correct?

Do you happen to know the years for the changes in the finish?

I'm curious to know, too. As far as I knew, King-White produced gloss and matte versions of the same figures, at all times.

Prost!

Guys, not sure there is an exact science/time frame, I will give you what I know:

1. Boxers - have only ever seen in the semi gloss I will call it.
2. Samurai - same
3. Romans/Gauls - only in Matte
4. Civil War - only Matte
5. Napoloenics- both, but mainly matte except later waterloo series
6. WW2 - only matte
7. ARW - both (some super glossy)
8. Prussians - semi gloss
9. Scots - matte
10. MAW,AIW, US Calvary - matte
11. West Point - semi gloss
12. Gurkha - gloss (semi)
13. Knights - matte
14. FFL - matte

I know I forgot some series, but that should give a picture. I have nearly the whole catalog and that is what I remember off the top.

All of that said, i am sure someone will find a completely matte boxer or a completely glossy civil war! I am not sure there was ever a rhyme or reason, they seemed to release them all different ways!

I recently have seen some on ebay that looked new. Are these still being made/imported? If so, do you know where to purchase them?

And lastly, Is there a set number of figures to each set/style of figures? Like you boxers, there are 8 figures & the cannon.

I know that they were available seperately and not in boxed sets.

Hi Chuck,
Ok, no not still being produced. The ones you see on ebay are repros using the old moulds. SO, technically they are nice and I have a few to fill in holes where I could not find the originals!! Made by the group out of Florida who were original sellers of the Reeves line and now hold a good number of the moulds.

Also, that cannon is NOT Reeves, I have not been able to identify it yet.

Off top of my head (I have catalogs), Civil War had 36 figures and 5 MTD, Boxers 8, Romans 7 or 8, etc. All sold singularaly for the most part. Opps, forgot, there were Cannon box sets for ARW, ACW and Nap and 3 band box sets for Naps and ACW. Also there were 4 Chess sets!!!!! And various promos items like Iwo Jima Flag raising, Spirit of 76, etc. Really a huge catalog of items.

Thanks Tom for the info. :)

Luckily for me the only ones that are of interest me are the boxer figures. With eight to collect that's not too bad. Even if Reeves didn't make the cannon it still looks good with your figures.

Thanks, I would just love to know who made it!

If I'm not mistaken, KW made only one cannon, and used that same casting for all series that fell into the black powder and musketry era, so, from the Revolutionary War through the Napoleonic Wars to the Civil War. It's a pretty klunky casting, too, but it does the job.

I have to go back and look at my catalogs, too, and refresh my memory about these things. A lot of my KW/Reeves figures are packed up.

Prost!

Very true! One Cannon fit all series!
