At the suggestion of Randy (PolarBear) this is a thread for Regal SoW collectors to share their interest and sets with others of like interest. I feel that the SoW glossies are the finest on the market and that one just can't go wrong with their wide selection of subjects and superb paint jobs and sculpts. I have been collecting sets for about 10 months now. I have accumulated some 8 sets with 5 more on the way.
I have:
NWF Indian Lancers
1A79A 1st Duke of Yorks Own Lancers (Skinner's Horse) - officer, buglar, NCO - 3 mounted figures in Yellow coats
1A79B " " " " " " " " - Enlisted men lancers - 3 mounted lancers " "
1A72A 39th King George's Own Central India Horse - officer, buglar, NCO - 3 mounted figures in Khaki coats
1A72B " " " " " " " - EM lancers - 3 mounted lancers " "
1A68A Jodhpur (Sardar Rissalah) Lancers - officer, buglar, NCO - 3 mounted figures in White coats
1A68B " " " " - EM lancers - 3 mounted lancers
Crimean War
CW1 11th Hussar - officer, buglar, NCO - 3 mounted figures in Blue jackets
First World War
No set numbers as the figures were ordered individually - 5 French Infantry attacking in 1914 Blue Coats, red pants uniform.
There is 1 officer, 1 buglar, 3 riflemen w/ bayonets
On Order:
NWF Indian Lancers
1A76A 30th Lancers (Gordon's Horse) - officer, buglar, NCO - 3 mounted figures in Dark Green coats
1A76B " " " " - EM lancers - 3 mounted lancers " " "
First World War 1914
WW60A French 75mm gun with 4 figures in Dark Blue uniforms
WW60B French 75mm Ammo Caisson with 1 figure in Dark Blue uniform
5 French Infantry in 1914 Blue and red uniforms, charging with bayonets

That's it for me. They are great figures. Sorry I can't post pictures. Let's here from others who collect SoW. -- Al

Great idea for forum thread. I have many Soldiers of the World Napoleonic sets. Unfortunately they are all in their boxes do to lack of proper display space. This will be a reason to get them out of those boxes and take a few pictures. - Ken

I will try to post pictures of Al's sets if i can find them on the Regal/SoW website.

Here are 2 of his recent additions--absolutely gorgeous IMHO!

1A68A Jodhpur (Sardar Rissalah) Lancers - officer, buglar, NCO - 3 mounted figures in White coats
1A68B " " " " - EM lancers - 3 mounted lancers

Might as well start the Napoleonics with the MAN himself. ''The Imperial Review'' sets N444/A, N444/C and N444/D.

The sets portray the Emperor awarding the Legion of Honour to a Sergeant of his Grenadiers of the Guard.

These are some of my favorite SoW sets. Vive L' Empereur! - Ken

Great Boxer sets, Randy. Many thanks for posting the photos of the Lancers and the French infantry. That is the exact set I currently own. All the figures match. The buglar is the figure next to the officer. His bugle is slung on his back. The bugle cord, which is a twisted red-white-blue cord, can be seen running diagonally across his left shoulder and chest front. The only question I have about these fine figures are the red shoulder fringe, which should not be there on a WW1 coat. -- Al

Here is a Hocker French Infantry set from the Crimean War 1854 showing the red epaulettes but not sure how long this style lasted

French Infantry Franco-Prussian War 1870s-red epaulettes.
Perhaps Ian Allen at Regal could explain the source for the WWI version

The Sharpe's Rifles set is very tempting even for a non-Napoleonic collector like myself

You are right, Randy. The epaulettes were done away with in 1875, except for garrison wear only, not in the field. The French Army went to war in 1914 in the M1877 greatcoat which did not have epaulettes. There was a blue cloth roll on the shoulder but that was there only to prevent pack straps from slipping off the shoulders. I think SoW has converted Franco-Prussian War figures to WW1 figures, which are very close in appearence, except for those epaulettes. -- Al

Hi Chaps - Just found this thread about Regal (lovely stuff!) - and thought that I would let you know that I had recently been in touch with Ian in NZ - as I am going to meet up with them in Greytown NZ next June.

Ian advised me that the whole of their SoW range is available from Mike Rosso at Stockade Miniatures PA in the USA " as Castings" , if you want to paint your own.

Didn't know whether you knew that or not - so thought I'd let you know the good news - just in case you didn't. johnnybach

Many of the figures are also available in unpainted plastic from Armies in Plastic--usually 20 figures in 10 poses for foot soldiers or 4 figures mounted

They paint up very nicely.

Great Thread! I have some of the Napoleonic sets including the Sharpes set. Have to say I didnt know they were available as castings and might have to look at that for some of the Crimean sets.

Dave

I agree,
a great thread and really nice figures shown here.
The plastic Camel Corps sets would allow for a large contingent at a rather cheap price for a figure painter.
There is a set with officer and three troopers, like Randy showed here, an add-on with four troopers, an add-on with two troopers and two pack camels, and another add-on with two troopers and an artillery piece loaded on another two camels.
Sets are $15.00 each, but on www.armiesinplastic.com they have a special, when you buy 3 sets you can pick one more for free, or if you buy 5 sets you can pick three more for free.
