We are very pleased to start the pre-order of the first 13 figures in our newest figure range, the Renaissance. REN001-REN013 are German Landsknechts with command from the Battle of Pavia in 1525. There is an officer, an equisitely detailed drummer, 2 x standard bearers, and 8 different Landsknechts with Pikes. As you can see, these figures are extremely colorful with stunning painting and sculpting. Certainly some of the finest figures we've created to date. These figures will be shipping to dealers and customers around the end of November 2011.

We sincerely hope you enjoy our initital foray into this colorful and fascinating period of military history! Next up will be the mounted Command figures and a few more Landsknechts.

Best,

These are quite amazing and even purchasing just a couple would make a nice addition to a collection.

Amazing figures. Makes me wish I was wealthy. And yes Jazz, even a few would really add to a collection - like the flag bearer, drummer and 2 pikemen.

Terry

Yes, I would say the flag bearer and drummer is something I'm considering.

Yeah, these are really in a league all by themselves. I don't know squat about the Renaissance, but these figures make me want to read up! I know it is obvious, but the varied colors make these figures really eye-catching.:wink2:

Can you imagine what the mounted French Knights that go with this series, will look like.

Hmm, sort of. I would expect them to be somewhat like the new mounted Crusaders, only with really impressive heraldry and late period armor! Imagine what First Legions's painters can do with some intricate Medieval heraldry.....

I think I will try the first 4 figures to see if this range is for me. They really do look brilliant.

I ordered:
REN001
REN002
REN004
REN009

I also ordered a couple Osprey books to get me started:
Landsknecht Soldier 1486-1560
Pike And Shot Tactics 1590-1660
Pavia 1525

You can't go wrong with those choices Frank. They're all stunning.

And so it begins {eek3} I can see Matt now with a big smile on his face {sm4} . I'm trying to hold out for Georg von Frundsberg but i don't think I can wait , not sure when he will arrive . Its gonna be something to see when the other combatants arrive the poses of these guys look like they are waiting for something BIG.. Regards Gebhard

Hi Brad ,
I agree with you my friend they are stunning , I must admit to looking at these images well over a 100 times :redface2: . I'm really having a hard time not pulling the trigger .. Man I liked it better when First Legion were only doing a Napoleonic line then I had no trouble each month with knowing were to spend my funds .. Oh well , I'm surely not gonna complain about to many GREAT choices .. Well maybe just a little :wink2: . Regards Gebhard

Gebhard,

It could become an even bigger problem after the four new ranges are announced, not to mention the additions to this range :smile2:

Brad, I would agree. It is unfortunate, but seemingly inevitable to some extent. Just too many ranges to cover and only so many resources to devote to them.

I know almost nothing about warfare during the Renaissance and have only a passing awareness of Pavia, but these figures are gorgeous and I find myself drawn to them. Don't know that I can afford to take the plunge wholeheartedly, but I am sure thinking hard about a few of these outstanding figures finding their way to my shelves. The figures are just irresistible. -- Al

A really good book for a good overview of the period is "The Renaissance At War" by Thomas Arnold. It covers all the major battles and gives basic information on tactics and equipment.
I am curious to see what releases for the opposition will be.

Brad ,
I know guys who are only collecting one line from First Legion don't wanna hear this but I'm hoping that with them spreading out into many more lines the time between releases will slow down a bit so I can keep up . I have a limit on what I will spend every month on Toy Soldiers .. I must also devote funds to my Original Militaria collection , just dumped a ton on a nice WW I collection :redface2: . So I had to set out for October which put me even further behind , I sure hope nothing sells out to fast , don't worry Matt I'll be back :wink2: ... Regards Gebhard

There is no need to buy them all :rolleyes2::D You can do a sample of 4 from the new Medieval figures and 4 crusaders like I am trying to do, and a few AWI. That way I get a taste of them.
