A re-paint of the original TG Cyclops A7V.

I had wanted to convert to a "Totenkopf" model as seen in the first photo below but the colour scheme and the depiction of the iron cross no longer appealed.

So Ive started to replicate the model scheme shown in the second photo below and I will post a full photo essay of the project but two photos showing early efforts are shown for the time being.

The painted model (fourth photo) is just the first application of paint with airbrush, there are some flaws to address. Plenty of work still to do, adding the name "Cyklop", weathering effects, mud etc. This might take a little while to finish as I am waiting on some mud effect products to arrive from Europe.

More photos to follow over time.

What a great buy that tank is!

Thanks for the photographs. It appears the value of mine will keep increasing - I will soon have the only one in Australia with the original TG paint job!

Breslau,
Good work. Looking forward to further posts on this.

Perhaps we will have to arrange a "show and tell" and gather all the different versions together at same time.

Thank you for the support so far.

Here are some more pictures of the preliminary stages.

Currently adding chips and scratches, before adding stains, mud and dust before naming the tank.

Hi - an update. I have added another three photos, one was taken earlier in the re-make before the dry mud and dust was applied. In that photo, the A7V is sitting next to a 1/35 scale two-storey ruined building just to give an indication of the size of the TG model if you haven't seen it in real-life - it is big!

The other two shots illustrate the dry mud effects I've applied to date particularly around the tracks and the back of the model and the painted exhausts. I’ve used weathering pigments to simulate dirt, dust, rust and exhaust soot. I have used a wash like-effect to accentuate features like the exhausts which I think have come out well.

To the eye, the tank has gotten a nice rustic look and is matte. The photos create the appearance of some shine where it doesn’t exist and blow-out the contrast in places. The rust streaks for example, are pretty subtle to the eye.

I will use some oil paints to create additional “rain fading” , streaking and some wet mud (I need a little guidance before I do this weathering) but don’t want to add too much more as it is too easy to knock delicate paint off with too much handling. I still have to drill holes for the various MG barrels and paint the finished machine guns.

Very nice repaint.

Excellent work......{bravo}}
Wayne.

Thanks for the photographs.........

Gentlemen thank you for your support and thanks to all those (including Gunn Miniatures) who have indicated "Likes". Guy and Mitch, given the considerable number of re-paints you have posted, I greatly value your judgements.

Excellent work I must say! Maybe we should do a re-release in this colour scheme one day - who knows?!

Best TG

Hello

Some last photos to show the finished re-paint.

Unfortunately the hull is not attached to the tracks squarely, so in some photos posted in this thread, t looks like the tank is cornering hard. Wasn’t game to pull the resin bits apart to correct this. The lower part of the hull now has wet mud, but as the tank was only really capable of about 9 mph flat-out, any mud was unlikely to travel too far up the side skirts or over the bow plate. The mud higher up the vehicle remains caked dry as a result. Some minor ageing applied, the tank christened "cyklop" and the gun barrels are now hollowed.

The third photo was taken under artificial light so the colours appear to have shifted and lighter in appearance from the others. But this helps highlight the final touches.

Very well done. The weathering is outstanding with the mud, the worn parts of metal etc.

Hope you dont mind me saying I am surprised how good the final version is. Clear you researched it
and thought it through it terms of the effects you have created.

An excellent job!

It goes to show that a manufacturer cannot hope to match that standard and keep prices under control.

Thank you for your kind words.

Jack if manufacturers could produce to higher standards of detail, the costs for collectors would be prohibitive and we then might not get to see, enjoy and marvel at the work of so many talented people like Obee, Mitch, Guy, Fitzgibbon and so many others on this forum who take already quality products and transform them into something even better.
