Repaint or Not to Repaint - That is the Question? (1 Viewer)

Repaint. Or Not to repaint...Strictly a personal choice.
I have actually seen converted and repainted discontinued K&C products still go at higher prices ( 2Xs orig.) at the Chicago show.
I do consider myself a fair to middlen' painter, and am toying with the idea of repainting a few pieces. They will be second line purchases. (Budget permiting.)

Interesting topic,

I just got back from Arizona after spending a few days with my friend Mark V. (Build-A-Rama). Guess what my opinion is, LOL? Craig at Old Toy Soldiers of SD has also repaired and repaided many of sets well too and I enjoy them all.

George is right as well as many of you that have already rendered your opinion. Buy retail or less and get repainted by a professional or by you if you feel good enough at it (I DON'T).

This assumes you don't mind the possibility that the re-painted set will not appreciate at the same rate as the original. Again, it all depends on why you collect. I collect mostly for the enjoyment of the display and secoindly for the value.

Carlos the repaints were/are splendid!
It is a great way to enhance your collecton. Craig is a master painter thats for sure. And, if a badly butcherd K&C Hamomag WS13 can go for $75 dollars over it's origanal price, with a sloppy paint job. Then you've still got a small treasure chest!

I think that it really does not matter what shape the paint is on a repaint, it can always be cleaned up and repainted. As long as the detailing and the features remain intact and you use (in my case) a professional painter (cause I can only paint with a one-inch or wider brush), what's the diff?
