Pretty cool but I wonder which part is being restored as it seems the hull was built from scratch.

I agree Brad. From watching the video, it seems its not a restoration, but a scrtch-built new plane. Could someone clear this out? The Rolls Royce Merlin engines are authentic...

Hey Guys, to quickly answer your question, it's a partial restoration, the team at Avspec picked up a 'project plane' in Canada on behalf of it's new owner American collector Jerry Yagen. The plane's metal work was good, but it needed a new wooded airframe and wings.

Once airbourne this will be the only flying Mosquito currently in the world.

Will post some further info later tonight( NZ Time)

Many thanks for the link. I am counting the days. There are/were apparently two airworthy dh98s in the US but neither one has flown in YEARS making this Kiwi kite very special. Despite my namesake, the Mosquito is my favorite airplane followed by of course the Beaufighter then Corsair. Watch out...I bet McKenna will drive up in a tank to watch the flight! No worries though as he will not make it up the ladder into the cockpit!

Best,
Marc

Forum Squadron Members,

Here are some lithographs depicting Mosquito FB Mk VIs of 464 and 487 Squadron (the dh98 being restored in NZ is being depicted from this Squadron) of No 140 wing during Operation Jericho (breakout of more than 700 French resistance workers from Amiens prison). Enjoy chaps!

Tally Ho,
~Beau

Hiya Marc, yes exciting stuff, can't wait till the 29th September. thanks heaps for all the extra info and some great prints. I'll post any new links that come to my attention.

Yeah I can see McKenna atop a nice wee Sherman, guns blazing...{sm5}......beware of the Hun in the Sun mate{sm2}

In the meantime here is another link of the maiden flight of the restored Avro Anson MK1 here in NZ in July 2012. It's un-editored, but a really great clip of a beautifully restored gem.

Enjoy Folks.:salute::

Just returned from the Ardmore Airshow, held here in Auckland, NZ to see the first offical flight of the resently restored 'Mosquito' WW2 fighter/bomber.

Absolutely amazing to see it buzzing low on attack runs in front of a large crowd........it's speed was really quite something to see and hear...unforgettable.{bravo}}

Will try and post a link or two in the next few days.

Cheers.

Out bloodly standing! Well done Kiwis.........{bravo}}{bravo}}{bravo}}

Thanks Tom & Wayne.......yeah what a day, she made several low attack runs over the airfield three times during the day.......sent a bit of a chill down ya spin really. The engine noise was outstanding and the speed something else.....can see why the Jerries feared this beast.

There's talk of building a second Mossie now, so who knows you Aussi's might get to see one yet?{sm3}

As for the Wallabies beating the AB's sometime soon Tom mate, well what can I say.......goodluck{sm2}:tongue::wink2:

Will post any other Mossie Clips I find too.

Cheers Guys

Cheers!

Way to go mate! Much appreciated as I was waiting for this & had it marked on my calendar. I would have loved to have been there. Hopefully, someone will eventually be selling some DVDs of the flight, etc. Thanks again.

Best,
Marc

Don't worry Marc, it sounds like the bird is heading to the states and the owner may bring it to a few airshows, perhaps in your neck of the woods.
