After just watching a dvd about this battle I was amazed about the loss of life in just a short time that occured.Very good dvd I highly recommend it.My question is how many types of artillery where used by both sides in this battle and do you think Andy will release some of these pieces.I have left room on the diorama I am building for such pieces.

I'll readily admit that I'm no expert in these matters, but I'm pretty sure that FOB031 would work in a WWI setting. What do you think Simmo..??

Sure mate I think it looks the goods but I don't want the French soldiers that go with it.He will do some big guns for sure as they were a big part of WW1 so I will just have to hang in there and wait.

Yeah well, I'm not sure that the French were at Mons anyway. Hope K&C release some big guns soon for you, cos I'm looking forward to seeing your finished dio. Sounds like a good one.
What was the name of the DVD..?? Is it a BBC release..??

Cheers

It's from the LINE OF FIRE series and is Brittish made from Cromwell productions.I have seen this series on pay tv before and I have picked out the ones I liked and bought them.

I don't believe any French units were at Mons as their forces in that area were already retreating when Frenchs BEF came into contact with the pursuing Germans.

I think there were around 900 artillery pieces of various types between the two armies with the Germans heavily outgunning the BEF. I've been patiently waiting for some WWI artillery pieces as they are to the First World War what the tank was to WWII. I'm pretty sure K&C will eventually come out with some great pieces. Until then I'll leave it to the footsloggers:).

For what it's worth, I was under the impression that the 75mm that comes in the Fields of Battle line could work for a WW1 dio- in fact, that it was excess surplus from the Great War. I may be wrong though.

I'm sure Andy will deliver some solid Arty pieces- they were such a big piece of the war- literally.

On another note, I heard in one documentary I was watching that French Friendly Fire casualties from massed or inaccurate arty direction in WW1 accounted for 75,000 casualties during the course of WW1- that is just staggering!!! Anyone else hear anything on these numbers??

I hate to be a dog in the manger but Andy is a bit light on artillery especially for WWII. If you look at the ratio of AFV's to artillery pieces that he has produced over the years. I hope he rectifies this with WWII and AFV's were a bit light on the ground there compared to artillery.

Haven't heard of an overall number but considering the narrow depth of the battlefields and the tremendous amount of artillery employed it would not be surprising if the numbers were not higher:(. I'm no artillery expert but I'm not sure the direction and ranging of indirect arty was very advanced at this stage of its development compared to the advances in its explosive/destructive power. Maybe some of our Redlegs can help us out?
