Have recently returned from a very enjoyable five week vacation in Australia. Whilst in Melbourne we took a road-trip to Donnybrook to catch up with Howard (Northgate Woods) and his charming wife Jen. Their Toy Soldier Experience business celebrated its first anniversary back last November and as we also attended the grand opening it was an absolute pleasure to see my old cobber again and see how he was doing.
However, that had to wait because Howard had just taken delivery of a batch of the new Alamo figures-and as an Alamo collector close examination of said figures took priority
I must admit the pictures I had seen of them do little justice to the actual product when handling them. Good sculpts, same weight as the usual K&C figures and in my opinion an absolute steal at the price of 3 figures for $69.00. That is bang for your buck
Sure the painting is not as detailed as we have come to expect but anyone handy with a fine paint brush can add shading and more precise detail to the figures and swiftly bring them up to the normal K&C paint standard. That's definitely what I will do
According to Howard business is booming and he showed me his store expansion plans. His massive collection cum museum never ceases to amaze me every time I view it Subsequently, what was obvious to me was that his stocked store- room most definitely needs to expand width wise.
Asking him what was selling well he made me laugh when he replied "Blimey Bob you're sounding just like Andy". But he did tell me he was caught out recently when a few Australian customers ordered a whole passel of Little Big Horn figures as he didn't think that series would be much of a hit in Oz.
This next shot is of Howard & Jan attending the Melbourne Arms and Militaria Fair.
And this one is of my grandson-Nathaniel Robert-attending his first TS show as a third generation TS enthusiast (Put it down to me doing my bit to keep our hobby alive and well into the future)
Howard sends his best regards to all the "Forum Froggers" and told me me to buy a round of drinks for all his pals in the Brit Brigade at the London show this coming Saturday. Only problem with that is he never gave me the money to do so!!!!!
Howard many thanks for your company and the heap of laughs we all shared and we'll catch you again in 2016
