Rifles in the Peninsular (2 Viewers)

I love the scenes -- you can really see the narrative unfold. Even better are the excellent conversions!

Where did you get the British wagon driver? I love their uniforms, but have never seen them for sale!

Wonderful collection and expertly displayed!

Cheers,

Brendan

Thank you for the nice comments guys. Very much appreciated !

He is a JJD figure http://www.treefrogtreasures.com/p-11378-british-corps-of-artillery-drivers.aspx
Which I converted and the first time I'd ever done a conversion.
The jacket has the right cut, row of buttons etc for RWT. So a paint job, not easy for me as not having the steadiest of hands and changing the cap to a shako using Milliput to build the shape, a piece of cotton for the braid and a piece of thick copper wire painted for the plume.
Hope this helps.

The Grenadiers assault is turned this time by Rifles of the 60th and 95th !

The story keeps unfolding.Well done that man.Your conversion on the artillery driver is very well done.I have never seen troopers of the Royal Wagon Train done by anyone before. The horse with him is JJD,but the cart does not look like the JJD cart-Have you done a conversion here too?I see some Cold Steel 43rd Foot in some of the scenes.I really like those figures and they seem to fit in well with your other figures.Keep up the good work!

Thank you Tony. Well I'll need to have a RWT driver to be at Hougoumont when I get there. An often forgotten hero !
Quite right about the horse. The cart is just a repaint of the newish Britains release.
Yes the Cold Steel figures are really nice and I will be adding some more to my collection in due course.

I. Love the scenes Steve especially the massed ranks of riflemen. Good to see a few of the 43rd light infantry making an appearance. I suppose you can't have a Peninsular War dio without a few of my lot turning up. Keep up the good work.

Absolutely Iwan, your Cold Steel figures work beautifully with nearly all the different makers I have in my collection WB, FL, KP, JJD, the newer TG and a quite a few Russian castings. I can't comment on K&C since I don't own any.

It's good that Nap collectors can use soldiers from 5 or 6 different manufacturers in the same dios. We hear quite a few gripes from collectors who want manufacturers to make figures in the same scale, well here they are. :smile2:

Hi Iwan

I think depends on how fussy someone is, if they want every figure and everything single piece of equipment to be the same size then they'll stick to one manufacturer. But look around and see people aren't all the same size. Even if you do stick with one maker then sizes can change, such as with WB a while ago and now TG.

Every piece of equipment was not of exact same size, colour etc with different workshops making the equipment, we're talking a time before modern mass manufacture and what with changes in uniform and the occasional and haphazard issue to the troops which weren't done on the same day or even same year.

One of the main problems for me was, if I stick with only one manufacturer the amount of Regiments they offer to fit in with what I collector want is small and I suspect it is the same with many others, but if collectors start trying other makes they might be surprised.

A lot of collectors stick to one manufacturers, I noticed this especially with Britains. I found majority of Britains collectors would not consider buying anything else other than Britains, this is just my experience. A lot of FL collectors will on occasion by Britains usually the Zulu range but not vice versa.
Every manufacturer has there own style and people like the soldiers to look the same. Although we as humans are all different shapes and sizes people don't want their soldiers to be different sizes.

It is good to see a collection like your own with many different makers but I don't think it's the norm. I think most people stick to their favourite maker and add the odd one or two to their collection.
I know there are plenty of collectors on here who collect all sorts of soldiers but even they will have a favourite manufacturer.

I bought an excellent book on the Peninsular War it's called " Far in Advance" the paintings of Christina Hook. It cost £20 from amazon and its full of Christina's paintings of the war, most of which have never been seen before.if you are interested in the Peninsular War then this book is a must have. My book is always at hand and I browse through it everyday, its really got me back into the Peninsular War.

The book only covers the battles of the light brigade/division but has some really good illustrations.

Iwan

Thanks Iwan for the recommendation, I'll have a look for that.

After the little skirmish at the bridge Wellington is brought intelligence that Marshal Marmont is approaching to join up with Marshal Soult and so he must abandon this his second siege of Badajoz.

Hope you Artillery guys enjoy this !
Deliberate faux pas with some of the Shakos being the Belgic type due to missing from the collection !
The Riflemen aren't loitering they are on the look out for anyone on the bastions !

Gabions on left by Hobby bunker though I have painted it and those on right by WB.
24 Pounders by JJD.
