Many thanks for sharing that story. Quite heartwarming and gut wrenching at the same time. Made me remember my grandfather who is still kickin as he likes to say at age 96.5. He served in the Pacific specifically Philippines and then the occupation of Japan. The bomb saved his life in my opinion as his unit was slated to be in the first wave of the invasion of Japan. These folks were and still are the greatest generation.
