Heard yesterday that Roy Cross , illustrator for Airfix had died last month ,shortly after his 100th birthday. As someone who built many an Airfix kit in my time it reminded me of how the image on the box was ever so important in convincing you to buy the kit, and giving you guidance on how to paint up the kit or figure.
Roy in later life was a fine marine painter.
Greatly Missed, especially this side of the pond.

An incredible artist. 100 is a great innings. I still have a few of the toy soldier boxes of my plastic 54 mm soldiers. Kept them because they looked so great. Did he do some stuff for matchbox as well? The art on their toy soldier boxes looked similar
