Omaha Beach vet, passed away this weekend at age 87. Landed on D Day, wounded twice in Normandy. Got to meet him at a book signing session few yrs ago in Louisville. He was instrumental in getting the D Day Memorial built in Bedford, VA which I will be visiting later this month. He was in Pres Clinton's entourage at Omaha Beach.

Another hero passes.

That's sad news. I've read (and reviewed) his book. The D-day landing stuff was amazing. He certainly had a warrior's name.

Sorry, I've been away from forum and missed this very sad news. I just wanted to add my deepest respects and graitude for all this man did in the cause of freedom in WW2. I have been really enjoying a tv docu series entitled ' D Day-The Soldiers stories' over the last week that featured Mr Slaughter's recollections of his D day experience, fascinating and moving stuff. My deepest respects to him and his family.

Rob
