Hi Rob,

Which museum did you go to? That Tiger looks like she runs so I was thinking it must be at Bovington. So which museum and what other great rides were on display.

Hi Dave,

Spot on mate it was Bovington. That Tiger is an absolute beauty. She is also very intimidating up close, funny because the King Tiger/Jagdtiger are both bigger but that squarish shape is somehow chilling up close. We went on a week day and there were no rides in operation on that day, but its such a superb museum and is packed with Shermans (including a Firefly) Churchill (Crocodiles) Panthers and the biggest collection of WW1 Tanks I've ever seen. In short just about any tank you can imagine is there. Well worth the visit (was about two and a half hour drive from us) and even my long suffering very understanding wife enjoyed it!:salute::

I would recommend going to Bovington when they do there show called Tankfest as they have loads of tanks running round from WW2 to modern British army and they do mock battles and you can still walk round the museum

Al,
Was that wise man Rommel or Guderian ?
Brett
PS Wan't it Patton who said "Too many Tigers can ruin a good party".
Brett, that quote could fit either Guderian or Rommel, but I believe it was some unknown Landser, sitting in a muddy foxhole with a horde of Russians bearing down on him, that actually coined the phrase.:wink2: As to the Patton quote, I think that comes from his autobiography, "Tiger, Tiger Burning Bright", which he finished right before his car accident. -- Al

Hi Guys,

We are planning a trip to the UK in two years as our last blast before we go back to the states.l I will be hitting this museum before we go up north to show the kids Loch Ness and Hadrians Wall etc. Besides I need to get one of those mugs for myself!

Dave,

Would be a good time to come because by then the new WW1 galleries at the Imperial War Museum will be open. But if for any reason you cant make it I'll get you a mug mate.

Best

Rob

Hi Rob,

I will keep that offer in mind you are a great guy for offering! Also I am hoping to see that display as well. I have a lot of places to see yet but with so little time it becomes very difficult to pick and choose. WWI is one of my major interest areas or rather the development of the Tank so this display is high on my to do list. We have been dragging the kids to some of these displays throughout Europe, to include the Verdun Battlefield and its museums and the French Army Museum in Paris and one of the best was the Army Museum in Vienna where we spent a long time looking at the car and uniform of Franz Ferdinand too include the couch where he died and of course the still visible blood stains, that got the kids attention to be sure. Anyway, there is a ton to see.
