Robert Conrad-Pappy (Hawaii Eye) RIP (1 Viewer)

I just saw this also. Wow, is it my age or does it seem lately the all the "greats" are getting off the planet?

As with Kirk, Robert Conrad has made so many TV memories. The Black Sheep will always be a favorite!

Time to get out the K&C AF "Pappy Boyington" sets for a tribute.

RIP Robert!

used to love the Wild Wild West...
when I was a little kid (age 10 ish)...
Artemus Gordon...Dr. Lovelace...etc...
my dad would sit with me every week to watch it...
it was one of our favorite shows...

40-45 years later...
I was flipping channels at my house...
and saw an old rerun on tv...

I called my dad and told him to put his tv on that channel and watch it...

I hung up and tried to watch it...
it was so bad...so cheesy...so unbelievable...
I couldn't even watch it...

couple days later...
I asked my dad if he watched it and why did we like it years ago...
he said he watched about 3 minutes of it...and it was so bad...that he also changed the channel...

I don't know what to make of it...
maybe it just wasn't that good...
maybe I just enjoyed hanging out with my dad...
I dunno...

seems like finding that rerun stole a good memory for me...^&grin

In addition to all his TV shows, I remember him on Battle of the Network stars. Howard Cosell always looked like Bela Lugosi on that show. They had all the TV stars compete in various athletic events. People like Gabe Kaplan and Scott Baio. Truly bizarre.

Morning, Mike.

I really don't think that you can compare the TV programs from 40, 50, 60 or more years ago to today's programming.
They were wonderful … at the time .. given the level of technology and state of the world and so forth.

Back then, the actors had to (ACT); not depended on CGI and special effects and more.
Yes, today they seem a bit "hokey".

But to me, given the JUNK that fills the network time slots, I would take a BONANZA, COMBAT, BAA BAA BLACK Sheep and many more over 99% of todays programming.

But I AM and old dude, so …. ?

As we all have discovered, you can't go home again. Grew up watching all the westerns and war shows I could. The only ones I have found that hold up and still interest me are Combat! (superbly written and acted), Gunsmoke,(especially the older B/W episodes...love Dillion's backhanded slaps on the bad guys), The Rifleman, and Twelve O'Clock High. Some of my old favorites I find completely unwatchable today. Time and distance and getting old.:wink2: -- Al

Never really liked Baa Baa Black Sheep with its flying scenes shot over southern California and bad scripts. But RIP to someone who was a tv icon. Chris
