I converted this vignette back in the 70s. It was a French Dragoon but now it's a Confederate cavalryman. Too racist or sexist or both?

His looks like the actor Robert Shaw

It is nicely done and doesn't bother me but I am sure it would some. It was probably better as a Napoleonic vignette. Honestly though he looks nothing like the great Robert Shaw to me.

It sure is a great piece of work, Scott.

Hi Scott whether PC are not it is a great piece of work and records social history as it was.

Regards John

I used to go to local collector shows until a diorama of mine was "hidden" by the organizers w/o asking me to remove it first. They knew me and I was there. I used the old Monarch Cliff Sanderson pirates in a scene. Even the legendary local painter "grand old man" of the hobby was publicly railing against my display. I thought someone had stolen my figures.

Funny, this was during the b**bs and lizards period of fantasy figures, also prominently on display at the same convention.

So I stopped going to conventions and shows until recently. I'm still bitter. ;)

Perhaps you meant this Robert Shaw; which would add a touch of irony to it?:D

That would be Ironic! Colonel Robert Gould Shaw and abolishionist Susie King Taylor!

I'm going to hell for that!

And no...I don't think it's racist...I think it's an imaginative vignette. I'm sure much more offensive scenes occured in real life. Minatures only reflect history; they don't inspire it. Great conversion. :)

As I said, I agree its not racist. It is also not Shaw. Let's see, the eyes are wrong, the checks are wrong, the lips are wrong, the chin is wrong, the hair is wrong, the ears are wrong and the shape of the face is wrong. However, they both have mustaches (albeit with a different pattern) so it must be Shaw.:D I am sorry Scott, it is great work but just not the actor Shaw.;):D

Yeah...but he does have a bottle in his hand! I can see the confusion.

I am still not sure, there is only one bottle. Robert Shaw's drinking was truly epic; it was counted in bottles of alcohol, not mere glasses. Sadly he begin drinking to excess shortly after the death of his first wife, Mary Ure. I loved his performaces, from Battle of Britain to From Russia with Love, Black Sunday, the Sting, Man for All Seasons, Force 10 and of course Jaws; such a tragic loss at such a relative young age.

I had to read that twice. I thought you said his epic drinking started shortly after his death.
