I don’t think I have ever posted any pictures of this new set, but my apologies if I have. I say new set with some inside knowledge that it was started over 6 years ago by another one of our artists and was left unfinished and without a base for years. I recently ran across it and decided to change some important details, add new heads and finish it up. I love to sculpt the scenic bases and this was no exception, and in this photo I used our fallen tree to blend the rocky base that the rangers are perched on into the woodland backdrop. I have sculpted a fair number of Rogers Rangers for a couple of different manufacturers over the years, but I was always pressured to make them look more like extras from a well known Hollywood production from 1940. Although it is a fun movie and a product of its time even as a teenager I knew that the uniforms were far from accurate. As a matter of fact the whole “Ranger” topic can get any number of people from Living History members to Miniaturists impassioned and they rarely agree. So, I thought it was my turn to stab at a couple of Rangers from one of the many Ranging Companies that were in service during the French & Indian War and Pontiac’s Rebellion. These two have uniform coats and wear a practical cut down felt hat with a functional neck and ear flap. These could be tied up when not needed, or let down offering some kind of protection. I hope to add a couple more soon and will probably put at least one in a knit bonnet that is mentioned in some descriptions, and just to have them visually related, will probably put them in similar jackets, implying that they may have drawn some clothing items and weapons at the same time. As far as other details, I would like to have at least one with a Govenment belly box and bayonet frog on a waist belt. We will see…

I really love the accurate depiction of the rangers, it is something we don’t see a lot. I would love to see some period militia and civilians as well! They would make for a good raid vignette.
