Is anyone else having trouble keeping the 2 new riders on the car? In my experience they fall off very easily, even in a display case. The slightest movement sends them careening onto the shelf. I hate to use tacky wax because it will impact the paint finish. Any suggestions or thoughts?

I'm really conservative in my approach to situations like this on two levels. First, I want to take care that the figures stay mounted. I don't want the figures (or anything else) damaged. Second, like yourself, I'd be concerned about the finish on the replica. In this instance, you've got a clear conflict between those two ends.

I'm normally a font of wisdom when it comes to issues involving collectors in distress. However, my initial response would be not unlike your own. Some sort of adhesive is required. Again, though, I'm unsure of what sort of adhesive is best. Simply put, I'd need to know more about the finishes involved before deciding.

With the above in mind, I'm going to "chicken-out" and refer you to JJD:

Jenkins knows its product. They'll understand not only the challenge of keeping the figures mounted, but also the finish on the vehicle. I'm sure that the manufacturer knows of a non-destructive adhesive that'll help insure the integrity of the figures, vehicle and surrounding collectibles. Sorry for the cop-out, but that's the safest route to proceed, IMO.

Thanks Moe

I think this is a good illustration of being "On the horns of a dilemma".

I have known John for a number of years and have done research, writing and photographs for him. He is not only talented but a terrific human being. He is super busy these days so I thought of first asking what other collectors were doing.

I have two of the cars so may use one to attach the figures with the tacky wax if all else fails.

Randy

I am having the same problem and concerns that you have Randy . . . . . . I finally gave up and used a tiny bit of Tacky Wax . . . . . . however, with that said, the figure that sits on the spare tires is still giving me fits even with the Tacky Wax applied . . . . . I have ended up placing a very thin piece of bubble wrap on the dio board next to the armouored car so that if/when the figure falls off the spare tires his impact is cushioned. If you find a better solution please let me know . . . . .

All my tests have been done in a tray with padding made of 2 layers of cloth and bubble wrap. Yes the figure leaning on the turret and sitting on the tire is very unstable. I think part of the problem is that there is not enough room near the turret to keep the figures in place. Both are literally on the edge of their seats. Perhaps Rolls Royce will be doing a vehicle recall soon^&grin The figures could use one of those little butt rods that are used with mounted cavalry figures but that unfortunately would require holes in the vehicle. Since the figures are made to sit specifically in those positions the rod idea would work but they would need to be left in place.

I know it's not a perfect answer but how about a thin piece of thread to tie them on? May not keep them in place but may keep them from hitting the ground, and if tied tight enough, maybe they will stay put. -- Al

A great idea. :salute:: Sort of like seat belts. I will try to find thread that matches the uniforms and wrap it around the turret. Snoopy told me you patched up his Sopwith Camel after his dogfight with the Red Baron.^&grin

Thanks for your ingenuity.

Someone may have mentioned it before, but why not museum paste available at art supply stores? A lot of us in California use it to protect our figures from getting knocked around during earthquakes. Should not hurt the paint.

Mike...
is right...
"tacky wax"...

it will hold them for sure...
won't damage figures...
not visible...
I use it to hold my knights to the siege towers...
cheap and works well...

like Brylcreem...
a little dab will do you...
