I just purchased Collector No. 3 which has an article on "How to Convert Your Roman Fort." It looks fantastic, yet I have never seen or heard of this before. Can someone tell me more about it such as, is it still available anywhere, when was it made, what is the item number?

Thanks

Hi Kurt,
Someone else can probably tell you exactly when the Roman fort was first offered but I can tell you that it is long retired and included the following:
RO40A Main Tower w/Double Gates and Bar ($77)
RO40B Corner Section ($35)
RO40C Straight Wall ($24)
RO40D Small House Barrack Block ($23)
RO40E Stairs Section ($23)
RO40F Small Gate Tower w/Double Gates and Bar ($41)
Prices are within a dollar of the original price for each item.

To make the complete fort you need:
RO40A Main Tower w/Double Gates and Bar (1)
RO40B Corner Section (4)
RO40C Straight Wall (2)
RO40D Small House Barrack Block (1)
RO40E Stairs Section (1)
RO40F Small Gate Tower w/Double Gates and Bar (1)

Toward the end one of the gate towers ran out before the other, but they were interchangeable so people just used two of the one that was left and it still looked cool. The gates both had opening/closing doors and all pieces were hand-cast and hand-painted.

It's been several years since I shipped my very last fort to France. The fact that someone would be willing to have such a beast shipped all the way from the US to France shows you that by the end of the run they were quite sought after.

JG Miniatures currently produces a Roman fort. It isn't cheap but it looks fantastic. It is meant for 1:32 scale but as long as you don't have a horseman going through a gate you can get away with using it with 1:30 scale. Food for thought!

Regards,

Shannon

What year did the Roman Fort disappear from the shelves? and what was it retired?

Ron

Andy advertised that a limited number of 100 complete forts would be sold when the fort was first released, but that became meaningless as with the number of component parts sold, many more complete forts were created.

Since John Gittens is doing more and more in 130 scale. Mabe with a few more helpful hints from the peanut gallery he might do a new Roman Fort upgrade. Eh?! O.C.

If you are still interested, the Roman fort is on ebay and yu can see the thread in the ebay section here

I am the seller of the fort and it is in great condition. I purchased it on ebay yers ago, and never set it up. It came from a seller in England. I coudn't get enough K&C Roman Figures and moved on.

It's in good shape and being sold by an ebay re-seller. The Ebay listing is in the miniatures games section because he thought the Toy Soldeir section was for figures only.

It's selling in Toys & Hobbies>Games>Miniatures, War Games>Other Miniatures, War Games.

If you need to contact me, feel free to send me an email.

I hope it not against the rules to list email.
