I got this set also not long ago. Its very nice, just wish these would come out a little faster from Conte.

Just received this set on Friday....... a HUGE

THANK YOU

to my very very kind benefactor here on the forum for asking me to take stewardship of this set... your kindness knows no bounds my friend!!:eek:

So, now that I had a chance to really get into this set and look it over Friday night, this has to be one of Conte's best sets of all time. Easily the best roman set he has ever done. I am going to doctor up the base (not doing a winter diorama). With this set, Conte has really really closed the gap on facial detail. I really enjoyed the detail on the face of the slain Roman.

The Roman collectors have some big decisions this year.^&grin

That's a decision.;)

Its kinda hard to put in a pre-order when there isn't even a picture of the piece you will be getting. None the less I have total confidence in Conte and pre-ordered it all ^&grin Now hopefully my wife won't pay to much attention and fail to notice some boxes say Conte while others say FL. She was prepared for FL already and isn't yet aware of Contes Roman line :rolleyes2:

It will be great for you guys if the 2 lines are compatible.

Personally, I will not mix and match Conte with FL. It appears that Conte has taken the unique stance of producing a Roman winter line while FL has gone with the more traditional spring/summer approach. I'm sure some of the figures might match but I can't imagine that the scale would be the same. None the less both the Conte line and the FL line will find their way to my house frequently.

I'm relly anxious to see the prices and finished product...I'm about 99% sure I will collect the Contes....I have been waiting for an affordable Ancient's line for a long time...

That's the one thing I don't like about Conte's pre-ordering is that you don't have a price.

I don't think there is a thing in life I would purchase without a price...I emailed Richard this morning and asked if he could give any early direction on the prices...I will respond to you if he replies...

"WE INTEND THIS ROMAN RANGE TO BE ONE OF THE MOST DYNAMIC YET FAIRLY PRICED ROMAN RANGES AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET."

I'm very excited about this...

Mark & Michael like with the new Zulu War, ACW, and Zouaves series you'll be notified of the price of figures and sets. At that time you can confirm or cancel your pre order. If you'll note he offered specials on all three series . You've got nothing to loose in pre-ordering an helps I'm sure in his scheduling his initial runs to meet his pre sales an inventory requirements..........The Lt.

I agree you really have nothing to lose. You are not committed to a transaction by pre-ordering these sets. If the price doesnt fit your budget just simply cancel your order.

I got a reply from Richard about the pricing yesterday...

this sounds encouraging...I don't think he would mind if I did a "cut and paste" verbatim...

"Pricing as always depends upon what the factory gives me and is also a function of the quantity we produce in each production run

I'm planning on doing a number of specials and especially with the 'shield wall' sets, do lower pricing on 2nd, 3rd sets, etc of the same item so guys can build up the large size forces they need without going bankrupt...."

the rest of the email was a description of some announced sets and some additional upcoming sets...including some hand to hand sets...

I'm excited about this and really anxious to see the pieces...

The sneak peeks are up on the website as of yesterday. They look decent. Will probably pick up the barbarians and the mounted roman general- especially if he sculpts and paints up like the winter games vignette did.

Otherwise, not sure, I gotta think FL is going to be hard to top for this range.......

yes I feel the same way at this point, still waiting for NW figures, in your dreams. Cheers, Robin.

I agree FL has certainly set the standard but its still nice to see another manufacturer producing Romans as well.
