Having just received the newly released K&C Romans I could now compare them with my TG and FL Romans.
The good news is that they can be used together! While not perfectly aligned in scale or painting they are close enough
to work together in a diorama or small display.
I chose to collect the three legions that fought in Britain under Emperor Claudius. With K&C's Legion XX (Valeria Vixtrix), TG's Legion IX (Hispana)
and FL's Legion II (Augusta) the invasion begins...

K&C's figures so far are very impressive and not the larger scale of the LOJ Romans. I am looking forward to their legionnaires in action and hopefully
some camp scenes and equipment.
Now we just have to wait for TG and JJD to supply us with adversaries (hopefully Celts) to test our new Legions.

Great time for Roman collectors.

Comparison photos would be great! Check out the new TCS Celts just released in the 43AD series.

Are you saying the K&C LOJ are larger and not compatible with K&C The Romans? :({eek3} Because that is very important too many collectors already with K&C LOJ Romans. Like to see some size comparisons!

I only have the LOJ mounted Roman auxiliaries and they are larger in scale than the new Romans.
Since they are Auxiliaries I will use them as a separate scouting unit when doing dioramas.
As far as the standing figures we need some feedback on comparisons from a collector who owns both LOJ and the new Romans.

Here is a quick photo of 1 K&C, 1 TGM and 2 FL.

Great photo and very informative. All the figures are within the normal variations of human height.
TCS, Aeroart and Conte Romans should fall within this same range. Only the original K&C 2001 Romans at 65mm tall and the small EOI Romans fall outside of this range. Looks like all current production Romans are size compatible.

Very interesting, great shot. Thanks Joe! I'm really surprised to see the K&C new Romans range figure is so much smaller than their usual offerings, undoubtedly made to mix w/ TG and FL size-wise.

Well if this is a joint project with John Jenkins, maybe K&C is scaling the new Romans to fit with JJD's upcoming Enemies of Rome.

The K&C Romans are about the same size as Aeroart; which are slightly larger than First Legion
Romans.

Thanks for the photos very interesting comparisons that have allayed my concerns about compatibility of the New K&C Romans.:)
But it does raise another question.
The Pilum varies in size significantly between figures! Which sizes are correct?.
Having looked up Pilums and the difference with the typical Roman Javelins and Hasta.
The TGM figure has a Hasta (spear) which is probably correct size. But the K&C pilum looks a bit too long! Whilst first FL figure pilum is probably to small!:redface2:
The last FL figure probably has the correct sized Pilum for height of figure.
Interesting to note. Probably room to have a more scientific discussion and scaling comparison of scale of Roman weapons

According to my book "Roman Military Equipment" the pilum in the time from Augustus to Hadrian averaged about six and a half feet long from wood shaft to iron tip.
Often, however, the legionnaire carried two pilum one light and one heavier and longer.
It looks like the K&C pila is too long but I would like to hear from them and some of our resident experts.

The Roman Pilum during the Empire was 2 meters long. The head of the Pilum was pyramidal and designed to pierce the enemies shield and body armor; thus the length of the metal shank of the head. The Pilums metal head was 60cm long. Most Roman toy soldiers have the shaft or head or both too short. A good rule of thumb is the Pilum should be longer overall than the height of Legonnary by one head height with the butt of the Pilum on the ground. The wood shaft of the Pilum should be at about shoulder level. The parameters will vary with the height of the Legionnary.

The Scutum (Shield) of the imperial Legionnary is often too short or too wide in toy soldiers. The correct size of the Scutum is 1.06m High X 406mm Wide X 305mm Deep. The depth measurement refers to the length between the face and a line drawn from edge to edge of the curved cross section. The measurements are from an Imperial Scutum excavated at Dura Europus in Syria. A rule of thumb is with the Scutum resting on the ground the top edge should be at about waist level.
