Romans (1 Viewer)

Yes I would love to know too as I am desperate to add a complete Roman army to my ever growing collection. If you find out Chris please let me know.

I heard rumours from some dealers that maybe in the spring of 2008. I guess we will all have to be patient.

Anyway I hope you enjoyed your Christmas and I wish you and everyone else of the forum a Happy New Year!

:D

Thank You Ken- same to you

No, my question was more Roman time period- ie Flavian dynasty, Caesar era, etc-

All the same, I am sure they will be superb!!

Maybe, Ken can answer whether his Romans will be in a similar scale/sculpting/painting style as the EOI Greeks? That would be an excellent choice in my opinion. I'm hoping for Republic period but, any period would be welcome. I haven't collected this period yet except for some Aeroart figures which are excellent but, not practical for me to create a reasonable diorama. Happy New Year!

Michtoy has some Romans previews on their website- couple of unpainted figs- looks really cool!!

They also claim that the Conte Roman Galley is due in Jan 2008. Knowing Conte I would take that with a pich of salt as their delivery times are notorioulsy unreliable. It will be worth the wait though. I still have not seen any suggested prices though.
Regards
Damian

Hi History!

Yes for sure they will be the same scale, sculpting and painting style to match our Greeks. In fact these days when my sculptor brings in a new figure I don’t even look at the quality before I get my ruler out! Sadly many a great sculpt has been scraped as being too big at this presentation stage.

There has been an increasing trend towards a larger figure but I fully intend to keep my ancient figures at roughly 54mm scale from soles of feet to top of head, and not from bottom and base and to eyes; as I have heard recently as being the scale definition of measurement for a figure! Lets face it; when you get your height measured by the doctor you don’t take a “base” with you to stand on, and the measuring instrument fits on the crown of your head and not where your eyes are!

I really am working on the 1st century AD with the Romans for the initial launch but, in a similar manner to us most likely bringing the our Greek collection forward a few Cs to the time of Alexander we might, if these are successful take the Romans backwards!

Thanks for your interest!

I also hope we get some Scorpios as well.

Hi Chris,

When you say "Scorpios" is this to sort of thing you are after? The Scorpio-Ballista!

Only in draft form at the moment of course!

Hi Ken,

Excellent! Your choice of 54mm scale is welcome. Great picture! Looks like a winner range in this era. Please keep us posted on developments.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC

I was immediately taken aback by the detail of the base- love the basket of bolts and the poses are just superb.

This is going to be just another fantastic line and will really top 2008 off as a great year to be an EoI collector.

Caesar gives 2 Thumbs up!! :D:D

I saw these were supposed to come out this year 2008 does anyone know of this? They look really cool between these JJD and K@C Cross and Crescent I have no hope, I need to win the lottery!

I am under the impression late March till late June. I am in no rush though, still gobbling up the Greeks.

Ken-

we are getting anxious here- Caesar cannot conquer without his troops- I got a big shiny boat to transport my legions but no legionaires- let's go Ken- at the double!! :p:p:p

WOW! Great pieces! Never seen EofI figures in person but they look great. Are they compatible with Conte Romans? I have a 100plus man Conte legion but alas they are attacking with no arty support:(. I have waited forever to get a catapult or scorpian or anything! If these work well won't be able to resist:).

Thanks all!

I am still hoping for a June launch (2008!) but I am awaiting our factories production schedule. We have HAD a few production delays due to the size of the shields verses their thickness, and having tried all various metal blends we could not get a decent casting, so the shield masters all had to be remade and slighty thicker. They cast perfectly now!

The first batch, which is quite considerable, I hope to beable to submit the paint masters to the factory soon and then at that point I will have a better idea of the actual production date.

I soon as I have all these beauties painted please be informed I will post them up straight away. I can't wait to see them myself!

Thank you Saber,

I don't really know if they will be compatible with Conte in your eyes but Conte does tend to make slightly larger figures than my company. As regards the scale of my figures; it is all mentioned on the first page of this thread. But sorry I don't have any Conte Romans to compare my figures with so I can't even judge for myself if they are compatible in my eyes!

Confusius he say "Why buy big competition army when one can make bigger one oneself"!

Confusius have much more artistic talent than me:D. Still, if they are even close I'll just say that they are on detached service from some distant legion in North Africa:).

Yes, a Pigmy legion! :D

Actually of course if you do have these chaps in different scales (mine weigh in at 54mm) you can always put the smaller figures to the rear. That way it gives quite a nice feel of added depth to a diorama. This works very well if the larger figures to the front are on a flat plain and then the rear ranks are on a hill say 2 to 3 feet to the rear on the diorama. It does in my opinion looks better than having all the figures the same scale.

Not to insult your collection but East of India is my favorite company out there- there is no way Conte can hope to be in the same league as EoI- yes, that is my very biased opinion.:D

Ken does his figures right- his samurai have cavalry and supporting ashigaru infantry and some arty pieces. There is no doubt in my mind that these Romans will set the standard for Romans collectors out there.

Now, if we could just get him to release the legions, everything would be all good :)
