Ohhhhhhhhhhh! Nicely done, Brad. My problem with paypal is giving them a bank account number after your initial $2000 worth of credit, or whatever the amount is, runs out. Can't get by that bank account number thing, besides can't the wife still get a hold of the bank statement and murder you in your sleep.

Fred

Try this
Set up a special bank account for your paypal use. Learn to trust your wife or do like I and others on this forum do lie, give her a new diamond ring. So far this hobby has cost me trips for wife and grand-daughter to Italy, England & Ireland. I do give them a shopping list.

The Matilda is mine...Was on display only a short time, then packed away. Unlike you folks with the garden houses and vaults to store your stuff, I am forced to rotate my collection....I really liked that piece, so whoever gets it better give it a good home...Thanks for letting me whine..Michael

Chuck, that separate bank account for paypal sounds like a winner, the only down fall I see is not getting any reward points for using the credit card, but I can handle that. As far as trusting my wife, there's no one on earth that I trust more, I might do some joking around on the forum about have to hide my new K&C addiction, but she's always let me do what I want (within reason, of course;) ). And about those diamond rings and trips to Europe, etc., I knew this hobby was going to be expensive, but I had no idea there would be all those hidden costs. Guess I should have read the small print!

Have you ever thought of selling a kidney??? :D Michael

And don't try that on ebay! It's been tried --- and banned.

How about kidney stones, had 'em a year ago. And I just paid over $3000 to have 20 of them removed from my dog's bladder. Any takers? Make a nice necklace for Valentine's Day, come on, be creative.:D

Fred

You know the weird part is there is bound to be somebody that would buy that on Ebay.

Yeah, there are some weird auctions on ebay like this person who was selling their grandma.

Oh no it's Valentine's day tomorrow! What do you get for the woman who lives with a toy soldier fanatic?

I'd go for flowers, chocolates and lingerie. :) Or maybe a new set of K&C..............nah the lingerie is fine, :D

We all have our cross to bear ask Louis

All I can say about Rommel's Halftrack is I'm glad I have my pre-order in. Its looks like many of the dealers have already sold out.

Brian Greenwood still has a few.

"No Charge"

It is pretty obvious that most of us will not own this piece at retail. This is what I posted at another forum .--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How is this scenario supposed to grow King and Country's customer and " collector " base ? Why bother with the dealers at all ,if they have no intention of these certain pieces ever hitting the shelf ? Just call the top 100 speculators out there and see how many they want for e-bay ? Great marketing strategy. Us Joe 6-packs ,who have been playing with and buying soldiers for years are economically frozen out of ever sniffing most of these type items, because the rich buy them to get richer..Just a little social statement on the current state of collecting " toys ".   Maddadicus- Michael

There seems to be a different crowd over here..so what do you folks think ?

With King and Country, you just have to buy what you like, if you try to get everything from every series, you will be broke. If you are a completist, then you will be spending some serious money. If they are limited runs, you just have to pre-order them. I have accepted the fact that I will not ever be able to own pieces like a K & C M7 Priest, and so on, because I won't, at this stage spend $500 on one piece. I think the limited runs are healthy for the hobby, as long as it is not overkill.

Hi Maddadicus

I,m not sure if the perception of the strictly ltds selling out so fast
matches the reality. The winter tiger i know is still availible at a couple of sites and also the ltd stug [slightly higher than retail though]I bought a
secound tiger to display only about 10 days ago from the US.

When a piece like this is announced, I just think you have to be quick and pre-order it and not take any chances. It's like anything in life: the early bird gets the worm. I think a lot of folks who are ordinary collectors (who have in the past bought an extra set and then sat on it for awhile and done well on the ebay craze that's been taking place for the last year) have probably purchased an extra Greif with the hope of making some money, probably to pay off the cost of buying the rest of the new AK series.

By limiting production, Andy keeps people talking about his items and keeps the value of collections high.

By limiting production or producing a set that is "Strictly Limited," K&C is creating a frenzied market for its products and that is brilliant marketing. When a highly desirable piece like the revised King Tiger (WS71) or the Greif is announced, dealers are forced to put in orders ASAP or face the possibility that they will not get any sets, losing sales and possibly long time customers. Collectors are forced to pre-order sets months in advance or face the possibility that an item that has not even arrived at dealers will be "sold out." Hearing that a set is already "sold out" by K&C and that dealers cannot reorder more, collectors on a budget are forced to pre-order these K&C sets to insure they get one, and possibly put off buying other manufacturers' products. Collectors who miss out on a "Strictly Limited" set will probably not let it happen again, joining the experienced collectors who pre-order as soon as a product is announced and adding to the frenzied demand that sells out a K&C set in less than a week. Convincing collectors on a budget to ignore other products and to buy your products first again is brilliant marketing.:)
