Hi Boerboy,
I have just done a bit of research re this comapny and before I get on to where in the USA Bill and Kay were hoping to move to I need to correct one thing. In looking back at my notes and email records I note that Bill's company was called "Royal Express Ltd" and not "Empress" as orginally indicated in my earlier post. It must have been a typo when the magazine went to print that nobody at the time picked up on. However, I don't think that is the reason why examples of these figures have proved so difficult to track down over recent years.
Bill and Kay were hoping to moving across states to South Carolina in fact, following Bill's retirement, but as previously stated this move was dependent on them being able to sell their existing property in Atlanta Georgia. The last email address I had for Bill while I was researching the article on the Delhi Durbar was
wspeer@bellsouth.net, but please be aware that I have not had occasion to use it since the article so I am unaware if it is still "live" or not.
Also Ana & Daniel at Beau Geste used to carry Bill's company on the links page of their site, so they might be able to shed some light on whether he is still producing figures or not. Last but not least Bill also indicated that he had in the past attended the major US Toy Soldier Shows in years gone by, for example, Chicago, so just maybe he was there at the last show! He was after all first and foremost a collector for a good number of years and I would be surprised if he had given the hobby up altogther. If he is not still in the business of making figures then he is probably still on the look out for that elusive piece for his collection.
Hope this helps you find out what the current state of play is with these exceptional figures.
