Royal Horse Guards - Past and Present (1 Viewer)

Wonderful JB, love that grey !

That's good Scott, I won another lot of Scot's Greys recently - and on inspection, five of them look like they are an old set, as all five of them are marked under the horse with the date of 1902. They are also marked Deposé - so are from the old French Office moulds. ( Though I've read that when the moulds were sent back from the French Office on closure, the moulds were re-used in the UK again). Still...........an interesting old set with a bit of history attached.

Very little damage too, just the odd hole and the usual missing arms. The other two are missing heads as well - but no date - so are from a later batch.

I was tempted to keep, what I think are a set - with their original paint - but that's really quite poor - so some small repairs and a repaint is likely - so some more Greys to paint up becons in the near future.

Glad you like this one. I'm not far off completing another five Troopers to complete this project now. jb

Just completed my second batch of Victorian RHG's. Here's a couple of quick pics of the bunch of 9 figures.

There's an Officer (on the prancing horse), a Trumpeter (on a grey), a Farrier (he's the one with the axe), and six Troopers.

I'll try and set up a pic of the two groups later on - but it's late evening here now - so maybe tomorrow for that.

Excellent looking figures again Johnny! I am always impressed with how quickly you repair and turn out these figures. It takes me forever to get one or two done 😳. Also I am very interested in the Scots Greys you just picked up can’t wair to see their progress.

Thanks Dave. I 'm surprised you think I'm quick - as I thought these were taking an age to finish! But never rush them Dave - I think it always shows.

The Scots Greys are another of my favourite Regiments - so yes, I'm looking forward to getting to them too. And would you believe it - but I saw three more Household Cavalry in this pose on offer last week - so put in a minimum bid - and forgot about it - but to my great surprise - I won them. So.....looks like a few more to add to these at some point! I quite enjoyed making up a Guidon Bearer for my earlier set - so might get a few more spare parts from Dorset and do another one or two, later on.

Here are some more pics of my latest set - made up as usual, from some Old Britains Household Cavalry figures, found in various places and in various states of dis-repair. After removing any old paint and fixing any broken parts, these have been either restored or in some instances converted - to look like the old Britains set72 - but THIS time - in the Royal Horse Guards uniforms of the beginning of Victoria's Reign (1837) - and those at the end of it (1897).

Apologies in advance for my photography - which I still struggle with.

First two pics show left and right hand sides. These show my 17 new figures. Note that I have added in a new figure at the head of the 1837 contingent ( in Romanesque helmets). He's a Guidon bearer - which was never in the old Britains set. He is flanked by two Troopers and followed by an Officer and a Trumpeter - and then another rank of three Troopers.

The second group of 1897 Figures shows an \Officer and Trumpeter - followed by two ranks which include six Troopers and a Farrier with axe.

I thought it might be a good idea - to show BOTH of my sets of 1837 Household Cavalry - so included my Life Guard section with my RHG's;

Now I know that Dave in particular, is rather keen on The Royal Scots Greys - so I got my RSG Band out of the cabinet - and thought it might be fun to show them passing by my new soldiers - and this is the result.

Hope you enjoy looking at them - at least half as much as I do. All the best - and have a good Xmas. jb
