Got to say that there are some pretty graphic scenes contained in it, so not for the faint hearted, but, d*mn, it makes me proud to be British.

I'm reading a diary right now of a Vermont Civil War soldier. The regiment's companies played a trick on their captains by demanding treats at the sutler. The captains bought fruit etc. for their men so the men "demanded" treats from the Colonel! The colonel let them go to sleep early then roused the whole regiment out of bed on a "false alarm".
