Rugby in the USA (1 Viewer)

Rugby is a hard sell in the US. I prefer it to soccer but most folks here can't get past American football and consider rugby and soccer as foreign. When I lived in Olympia I wasa partil sponser of a co-ed Rugby team - I provided the beer at practice. The team broke up cause the girls were too rough and some of the guys were reluctant to hit them.

If rugby ever took off in the states I am sure they would be a force to be reckoned with. I get the impression that it is a kind of university hobby sport in the US. Kind of what American football is here.
I remember many years ago I took an American University friend in Japan to a bar to watch Australia versus NZ at the world cup. He was blown away "What! No pads?!"

With all due respect Rugby is mainly a University sport in Australia, and I should mention that most Americans confuse Rugby with Rugby League.

Btw, we gave those Italians a bit of a hiding in Rugby recently and of course we didn't try too hard in the Twenty/20 Cricket games to concentrate on beating the Brits (still getting used to that term) in the Ashes  :D

I'm not a fan of the game but apparently the plan was to play so badly that it will lull their future opponents into a false sense of security  Personally I reckon Baldrick had better plans ;)
