..... The Cossacks  of the vanguard maintained the pressure and not lose an opportunity to harass the men of Marshal Ney. It is in these circumstances, with a handful of brave men, it led the final fight of the Grand Army.
This fight takes place December 14, 1812, while Ney did not count some thirty faithful around him, Bavarian, Wurtemberg and French.
Seizing a gun, he leads by example and makes the shot against the Cossacks. They are out of reach, the fight is uneven. To allow time for debris leaving Russia, Ney fight all day defending the gate called Vilna. In the evening, dropped the last faithful, he left the position and crosses the bridge only the Niemen. There was only dead and prisoners behind. He was the last French to leave the Russian land, they had violated at the end of June. He had saved the last remnants of the army and earned the nickname "the bravest of the brave."

My inspiration "revisited" with my little soldiers. :)

Brilliant, as usual Guy. You make history come alive.

Brilliant setup of your diorama, and especially seeing the addition of the battle damaged gun and wagon.

I hadn't thought that these particular poses would have gone so well together to recreate this iconic action led by Marshal Ney to keep the Russians a bay while the remnants of Le Grande Armee retreated over the river.

I have loved collecting figures from this period, and this action in particular, and this is my set, sculpted by out late member, Allan Caton (Trooper) for Tradition of London and that I painted a few years ago.

Looking forward to the First Legion Retreat expanding over time, as its the best that's been created.
