RUSSIANS vs. OLD GUARD (1 Viewer)

Ron,

You are quite right ... I usually get one of everything, and its only on rare occasions that I will go for a second or third The most I have is 3 of the Old Guard advancing. I always bug Andy to release figures with little variances .. as some other manufacturers have done. IMHO That kind of setup is good for pre 20th century warfare.

I have posted pics of the French infantry & calvary Under the "Thundering Hoofs" thread ... and the Old Guards & artillery pieces under the "Old Guard" thread.

Have any of you guys had one of those glass shelfs break under the wait of all those metal soldiers sitting on them?
I went to unpack my del prado collection wich I had packed into one box wich weighed a ton and I had second thoughts about filling the glass shelf with them after feeling the combined weight of all the figures together, something I would not have noticed so much had I put them in one by one here and there.
So my question is, has anyone had a bad expierence with a glass shelf giving way on them under the weight of there collection???

Hi Tim,

You raise a very interesting question. While I have not personally experienced a broken glass shelf, I have worried about the same issue. I had several of my Delhi Durbar Elephants on the same shelf and I redistributed the sets on different shelves for fear the weight would break the single shelf. I feel much more confident that I have averted a significant tragedy by being more cautious about the weight of the figures.

Like yourself, I would like to hear from anyone who has suffered a bad experience. Given the cost of our collections, I do not think we can be too careful.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I have some sets on wooden shelves (actually a bookcase) and I plced my Durbar Amphithetare on teh lowest shlf of one of my cabinets which was teh base of teh cabinet and hence wood. It is something I do worry about though.

I should say so. What about plexiglass, has anyone tried that? Not as pretty of course but not a breaking issue.

Glass is a very strong material (and after a brief search on the web) it would appear and believe it or not a Tempered Glass shelf which is 3/8" thick x 12"deep x 48" can apparently carry a load of 140 lbs and this is using a safety factor of 2.
But having said that my display cabinet has 1/2" wooden shelves.

I have been very fortunate to not have a breakage issue (knock on wood ;) )

But, I have from time to time make sure the weight on my big AK Diorama is evened out on all sides - I will post a photo later to show how I did that.

All of my shelves have a good thick piece of glass - I did have to replace one shelf due to breakage during a move - the replacement is a thinner piece of glass - I have taken careful concern on the weight factor with that one shelf.

OK- here is the latest.

Andy told me he has more plans for the Russians coming up in the coming months and these would come before any new Empire Nation will be added to the K&C Napoleonic Range.

Austrians sounded possible - Prussians, well Andy thinks their uniforms are "boring" - sounds like a campaign is needed for the Prussians. ;)

The first bit of news is most welcomed, hopefully Russian Curraissiers ... as indeed any new K&C Napoleonic release is always welcomed.

The second bit is rather a disappointment ... as IMHO, K&C Napoleonic collectors are most likely driven to collect any historically accurate presentations from that period, rather than being attracted to mere colorful uniforms.

For, If I was only interested in color ... might as well collect Disney fugurines.
