If you're in the US, you might want to try SuperClean. It's an automotive de-greaser, formerly made by Castrol, and it's available in the automotive section of discount department stores like Walmart, as well as at automotive supply stores. It does not give off fumes as violently as oven cleaner does. Also, you can use a batch of it over and over. I use glass jars of different sizes to make baths for pieces of various sizes. It will remove enamels, acrylics, and oils. I haven't tried it with lacquers, but I think it'd work with those, too. It does not attack the materials, either, whether metals, resin, or styrene. After a soak of five minutes, the paint is softened and can be removed by scrubbing with an old toothbrush. The longer the piece soaks, the more the paint softens and dissolves into the solution. At around $8 a gallon for a product that can be used over and over, and also can be used for household cleaning tasks, it's a bargain.
Prost!
