Very nice Simmo. Did you make the buildings yourself?

Simmo,
Must agree with Brad, and would also like to know the origin of the buildings... It looks great? In picture one, there is a doll carriage in the background. I have three in my set-up background. Why is it there, What do you use it for, and How can I get rid of Mine???;):p
Actually my daughter helps with the soldiers more than my son!:) Mike

I would also like to know more about the buildings. It looks like you could use them in a vast number of periods.

Well not having alot of money I am always looking for cheap things.Part of the structure I got from my local Aquarium shop and then I added other sections that I built up with odds and ends from a $2.00 shop .They don't call me cheap Simmo for nothing.I have a goal to get good enough at building dioramas that one day maybe I will be able to get one of my dioramas into Louis's toy soldier museum. This would be the ultimate as so many people go through his museum.Simmo.;)

I am thinking about doing a crusader diorama with the same type of theme as I really like this range.I haven't got any of these figures but I might build one anyway.Simmo.:D

Just come visit the museum and I will be happy to display one of your dioramas . . . :D

Simmo,
Brilliant tip for using/finding aquarium decorations! I'll keep my eye out next time I'm in the fish section. Say hi to the little ones for me:) Mike

Simmo,

It would be an honor for me to have one of your dioramas in my museum. You don't think you will ever be able to make a trip to the U.S.? I can tell you that I would love to visit Australia and New Zealand. I tell you what, when my kids are old enough to make a long trip like that we will come visit you, and bring one of your excellent dioramas back to display in the museum.

Great Dio !!!

It is amazing what you can find that works for our hobby whilst browsing for other things. Not just aquarium decorations for buildings as posted here, but things like toothpaste caps for planters, buttons for plates, artificial plants cut up can be used for trees, shrubs etc...

Thanks for sharing :)

theBrigFarmer is correct. If you keep a open eye (actually two would be better) there are a lot of stores that you wouldn't suspect of having great items for dioramas.

*:) As mentioned Pets stores carry all sort of aquarium items, including the aquariums themselves that make pretty decent display cases if done up right. IN addition that carry all sort of Small stones, sands, plastic plants that can be cut up and painted and a bunch more.

*:) Check out your local floral stores. You will find a good assortment of cheap foam for bases and a good variety of really accurate grass like material as well as other artificial plant and flowers that can be used as the beginnings for trees and more.

*:) Don't be afraid to rummage around the "Doll Departments" in department stores or hobby/craft stores. Although some of the items can be expensive (like doll furniture) you will be amazed what is there. (Accurate scale wall papers, indoor furniture, outdoor furniture, miniature electrical wiring, ground cover and a ton more.)

*:) Check out the cake decorating section of craft and hobby stores. They have some really cheap Roman or Greek style columns (Wedding Cake Lifters) and a good selection of "toy items" that people put on birthday cakes and such.

*:) Check out the local "Everything for a $1.00" stores (or what ever they are called in your area). Their stuff changes all the time so you never know what you will find. I saw a huge collection of "Ancient Egypt" items that can go with the AK, EA or AE series of K&C for example. They had Pharaoh heads, Anubis heads, temple sections and more.

*:) Of course don't forget the obvious places like RR and Trains stores and plastic model stores.

The best thing about most of these places is the cost is really low so you can paint it, cut it, break it and if it doesn't work, so what. So anyway good luck and good hunting!

Larry
