save the privates Starlux (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I've Starlux soldiers and and like to repair and customize them.

Here, I've used a private with a broken rifle. On the left you can see the original and on the right what is possible to do.

Rifle :
It was possible to repair the rifle like a M1 Garand but I decided to change it and to build a Thompson with the basis. I made the case for chargers thompson


Uniform :
On the left you can see that the jacket have pockets. I could cut these part but I found that the US army used jacket, the HBT 1938. like that. I've just add tin strips and paint all the buttons.

I've noticed that this jacket was used during operationTorch and in Sicily (1942-1943), for example. I decided to paint a sergeant of the 3rd US infantry division. This boy was a vet of the north african and sicilian campaign.

I changed the bottle and added the missing parts.

For the helmet, I added the camouflage netting, bonded with liquid glue revell and put the straps with tin strips

The shoes
I added I added cords gaiters

The bag
I will add pockets on the side and paint the letters like on the bottle.

For the basis
I've sculpt grass and added bullet casings on the ground. Find that more realist

For the sheme paint, I used life color 1 and 2 and Prince August.

The paint sheme is not finish. I will still improved shadows and wash.

For the moment, this sergeant is alone but he will fight with his platoon in a dio, soon.:smile2:

I have a bunch of Starlux metal guys that I found in Luxembourg last fall they need some attention but that's for another day, very happy to have them in my collection. Just need to find the mounted ones now.

All originals were in composite and later in plastic ( from 1947 )
The original company worked from 1944 to 1977

Dave, I think Johnnybach had some metal Starlux, too, that he was going to repaint. Or were those yours? I recall someone had a thread in the past year or so, with some metal Starlux figures undergoing some upgrading.

You should get yours out!

Johnny does indeed have some as well. I believe he has several of the mounted ones that I would love to find. I am still trying to dig out of boxes and haven't gotten past filling my book case with my history books so I hope to get into some more of those boxes soon. Its trying to move at times but I certainly am enjoying the new countries and places we are visiting. I still have found any soldiers here in Poland but I am not through looking either!

Once I get my guys out I will take a photo and post it.

For the insignia, I hesitated between the "Red big ONE" and the "Rock of the Marne" but I've read articles and books about the 3rd and they give me an idea for a dio.

Hi all - Yes - it was me that repaired and repainted some of the Starlux (Atlas Edition), metal figures. As stated - they were re-cast in metal from original or modified moulds after the Starlux factory was closed - and sold by description - rather like Delprado sells figures now.

Here are some of my last bunch of Napoleonics ( the only ones I buy) - after repairs/re-painting. Note that some are slightly different to their original form - as I have slightly modified some in the repair process. As they are a bit larger than 54mm - spares are often tricky to find - so are usually scratch built. As you can see - I like them Glossy.

I find the metal ones are far more satisfying to paint and handle than the originals in plastic - though the Starlux brand are better than most plastics at not flexing too much - and losing their paint. They are also often cheaper to buy than their original plastic counterparts - which can often go for more.

The metal ones - as re-releases - are a bit inconsistent in their style - as they have been drawn from a variety of releases by the Starlux manufacturer over the years. I like them very much - and keep half an eye out at flea markets when I'm over on the continent - although there is a healthy variety usually available on e-bay too, these days. They are mostly inexpensive, ( especially those in need of some TLC), though SOME sellers seem to think that they are selling a rareity - and go completely over the top with their asking prices. Just keep looking when you find silly asking prices - as a pound or two is usually sufficient to buy some of these surprisingly modern metal reproductions.
