Just hearing 27 people have been killed in a school shooting in Connecticut. Terrible news and thoughts go out to those killed and wounded and their families.

Also sounds like many were children. I can't imagine how any parent could cope with this situation.

No its indeed hard to imagine how you would deal with this.

Apparently gunman is dead at scene.

18 children were killed. No, I don't know how you cope with that, particularly with the holidays approaching. Just amazing.

Reports saying one entire class is unaccounted for?

Current report is 26 dead. Absolutely untolerable and these type of actions must be stopped........NOW ! It seems anywhere where there are large groups of people as in schools, movie theaters, shopping malls, Airport security type measures
need to be implemented to keep weapons out of public places.

sad thing is these events are not shocking as they are so very familiar and frequent. Its almost a case of anticipating and expecting another one when some crackpot with extremely easy access to a wide range of guns loses control.

You can never secure all of these ''soft targets'' its just impossible and, that's the attraction for these people. How many people will die until someone says enough and takes action?

They are now saying he drove to his parents house and shot dead his father, then went to school where his mother worked and killed her before opening fire on others. Apparently he had four weapons on him.

Shocking.....I know the horse has bolted long ago but this is one more in a very, very long line of reasons why meaningful gun control in the US is long, long over due....imo...
Wayne.

This is just horrible to see. As a first responder we train for active shooters in the schools or any place with a large group of people such as malls, stadiums etc.... The problem with these shootings is that they are completely unpredictable. Short of complete gun control I really don't see how this problem can be remedied (which will never happen in the US). Very sad to see. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families.

Makes me glad to know the schools in my small town formed plans for active shooter situations about 5 years ago and actually practice drills every year, just like they do fire or tornado drills. Being in law enforcement and being married to a teacher, it was easy to facilitate this type of predardness in my wife's school. I would encourage anyone who knows school administrators, teachers, ministers, workplace managers, ect. to check with these type of people and see if they have some type of plan for thier facility. If they don't, questions from concerned people should get the ball rolling.

I know there are a lot of former military and law enforcement types on the forum who have probably already done this. Still, it never hurts to check.

Obama struggling with emotion to put it into words here.

To take a whole kindergarden class of young children is just unthinkable. This is an unforgettable event. I will not sleep for days with the horrible thought of the atomosphere of the classroom then and now.

GOD BLESS everyone of God's children and their families.

Whoever you were, you are face of the devil, you were a coward or all cowards, the lowest of pathetic lives to ever have lived...you will ROT IN HELL!!!

The US Supreme Court ruled that our Second Amendment is an individual right so it may take more community insistence on individual accountability and competency for ownership rather than blanket bans. In the days of a community militia (our "well regulated militia" in the 2nd Amendment) people knew who the unreliable folks were.

It would no doubt have made no difference in this case but I wonder if Connecticut will review it's repeal of capital punishment earlier this year.

Gents...while grieving the loss of life, please refrain from turning this into a conversation about political issues.

Thank you...and I'm keeping those suffering in my prayers.

Thing is people like that who are determined to take people with them will always find a way, cars, knives, fire etc etc . We recently had a case over here (well in Wales actually) in which someone in a van drove around running people down at random, even jumping out to stab people, before resuming his rampage. And how do you legislate for someone who on the surface does not look like a nut job and has never done anything like it before suddenly decides to kill himself and take as many as possible with him?

I'm not an overly religious person but I hope God will bless those children and adults from Connecticut tonight as they leave this horrible world and go to a better place.

I agree with Mark. These kids had their lives ahead of them, as the President said. I can just not imagine what life will be like for the people tonight who have lost children or parents, relatives or whatever. My son works in an after care program while he's going through college and I can't imagine what I would feel if something had happened to him.

Yes, whatever your beliefs are, say a prayer or think a kind thought for the kids and teachers tonight.

I have a daughter in kindergarden, and I hear about this story just as she arrived home from school. I just held her in my arms and told her I loved her. I can't imagine losing my little girl. That monster didn't just kill those 20 children, he destroyed the lives of their 40 parents. The horror . . .

And it grows from there. As a grandparent, I would be destroyed as well. What a coward that individual was. I hope there is a place in Hades for him. My heart goes out to all who have lost their dear ones and friends. What a complete waste and tragedy. -- Al
