This is only a very little try for a huge snow dio I am going to make after the summer taking place in Russia, january 1943, showing the disastrous retreat from the Don river of the german, italian and hungarian troops.This was one of the consequences of the german defeat at Stalingrad.

Great "King and country" items+a nice red army "del prado" ( infantry soldier Stalingrad 1943)I bought today.:tongue:

Hey POPO .... A HUGE .. {eek3} snow diorama.
NOW that is something that I want to see. Should be a FUN "summer"project.

When it is 90 Degrees (F) outside you will have wool socks and mittens as the German 6th Army struggles through the Russian Winter.
Keep us updated, please

Yes I have some snow scenes in mind, so I am keen to see how your dio unfolds. Robin.

Thank you, Larry! :salute::

First, I have to carry my toysoldiers for this next dio from Paris to Italy as I will do it in Italy where I have already bought some del prado italian alpini retreating in the snow.There will also be a home made sled carried by a horse...And I don't want to hurry, I really wish the final result is well done.

With pleasure, Robin, but it is not for soon....I can tell you that there won't be any buildings, nor tanks, nor trees...There will be a wooden russian bridge, a sled, a truck and a rearguard in the foxholes in the snow covering the retreat {sm3}.

Poppo, Well if the German shoots him now it will save you a lot of Snow {sm3}

Well, I am afraid that his life expectation isn't probably longer than a few seconds....Unfortunately, that happened on both sides on the eastern front....

Never hurry, only work on a dio when you feel like it.This gives the best result.
Looking forward to see the end result.
But, can you keep us updated on a regular bases on the progress of your work ? Always interesting to see how fellow dio makers work.
guy:)

Thank you, Guy! You are a master painter and a master modeller, I am waiting to see your the final "juno beach" dio.
I agree that these creations need a lot of time to be fully satisfying.I think I am a very average modeller, but I have a fervent imagination in this field! It is a new challenge each time using new materials and new technics.

For the italian people(I mean the very few who know about history!{sm4}) the 1943 disastrous winter italian retreat from Russia has signed our military history, in fact, the italian army never lose so many men like during the ww2 russian disaster: about 100000 deads.This retreat also caused the fall of Mussolini a few months later.

Del Prado made for the italian market only some italian alpini( the only units fighting during the retreat) retreating from Russia as you can see below. Historically very correct. and a try of the sled I did with a del prado napoleonic and a tissue.

Hi Poppo,
that’s a good idea. I’d like to make the same think. I bougth Del Prado alpini collection, several years ago. I think it’s a great set, as you can see below, but maybe we should wonder how our dio could look like with k&C figures. Is it just a dream? Shall we ask Andy about this? :eek:

Best regards

Enrico :)

Lucky you! I just found 2 of them....I would also like to find a del prado alpini modified to make a dead freezed soldier in the snow to add the drama, but not sure...I also have KG and del prado to display together.Important is not to put them very close to each other as the italian alpini are smaller and thinner.

Thank you, Guy. I wish to make a simple, small, one person sled made of the wood of a fruit box.Brenno made the one below with the wounded guy laying.
