Hi.
Quick question. I have noticed that some companies have a white tassle on the headgear of Scots Greys during the Napoleonic Wars. Some companies, however, do not. Which is correct?

My uniform sources show a yellow chord on the hat.

That fits in with the yellow lace on the facing of the jacket, and officers had gold lace / chords

This is a coloured plate from HISTOREX showing that.

and here is another by Alexis Cabaret on his Mont Saint Jean website

I hope that helps...

I believe the illustration showing all the lace on the trumpeters arms is incorrect. The 1812 regulations stated that trumpeters were to be dressed as the men. The lace dates from after Waterloo, about 1817.

the 2nd Dragoons had white lace and caplines until the Warrant of 1812 changed this to yellow. Although there may have been a slight overlap between the issue of the warrant and it's actual implementation by the time of Waterloo the caplines would have definitely been yellow. I also endorse Martin's comments regarding the trumpeter, the 1812 regulations are quite clear on this subject. This anomaly appears to have originated in France as I have seen another illustration by a French artist in addition to that shown by John. A great pity that it has resulted in several incorrect figures being issued recently. Trooper

Does anyone have an illustration of a Guidon - for 2nd Dragoons, The Scots Greys around about the turn of the Century - say around (1895-1905 - ish), that they could share with me please? Reason is, I have a mounted band for that time - which has an Escort - and I would like to make up a mounted Guidon Carrier to go with the Escort.

As my band and Escort were made from modified castings - I would like to make up the Guidon Carrier from similar castings - so that they will all look the same. If anyone can help - could you please give me a shout - either here - or by PM? I know what the banner looks like in general terms - but would like to get the detail right - if possible. Many thanks - johnnybach.

Here you go, Johnny. Hope it helps. Trooper

Thanks Trooper - that's just perfect. I was hoping that you might have one - that helps enormously. I've only got this far with him for now - and made the blank Guidon yesterday - from bits and pieces. johnnybach
