Yesterday i watched for the first time this wonderful movie. It's a classic gem of the British film industry, and while i was watching its splendid technicolor and photography i was asking myself if someone would buy figures inspired by those explorations. I'd do it! And Andy with the K&C style is the only could realize them! What about you collectors and friends? We are in that part of the world with the recent release of the first Falklands war figure...so why don't go more to the south? ;)

A fascinating subject, to be sure. Sledge teams would be great, though scenery might be a bit repetitive. Hero or otherwise? A lot depends on whether one chooses to believe Huntford and his line of thought or Feinnes and his line. Still a great story of exploration and endurance. -- Al

You would only need a few figures and accessories to tell the story in a small diorama, good idea. Robin.

It could start a range or series with all the great explorers of various eras...I was always fascinated by the great discoveries of parts of our world...so why not the great explorers of Africa as Burton & Speke? Livingston and Stanley? ...Or fascinating native peoples?...and the search for the Northwest Passage...Lot of figures! I know that maybe in our era of politically correctness some of them are seen as "evil" , but it's history and toy soldiers are a powerful vehicle to know it!

It is a great movie (even though Monty Python's skit is a fun jab at survival movies and it in particular).
It would make a great smaller/spin-off range (the sled pack would be awesome, it might sell to Jack London fans - maybe, but collectors would like it I think!) Still, the monotonous scenery and lack of natives would be a problem, as has been mentioned.
I like the idea of more explorers meeting interesting natives, however. TM's Columbus meets the Arawak and JJD's colonists meet the Virginian Tribes are very fun.
From Siberians & Inuits to deepest Africa and beyond, I think it could be a fun range. Maybe viable for a manufacturer.
But that is always their decision! The market mat be limited, and good-old always-improving K&C seems to go for more popular topics (since they're on top - why not?!). JJD does Mountain Men... this may be in that area.
I like how K&C does popular ranges (WW2, the US West, etc.) and makes them more fun than others before. Less popular fields and supplements to K&C may be best left to others. But that is a decision for them! I look forward to many Makers' releases, and it is always a treat when K&C does something different and risky on the market. But a steady flow of pop topics done magnificently is all I ask...
Still, good suggestion & good responses. Best to you & Andy & you all!
I will go back to my emails and fighting with my insane puppy, and I hope you all have a good day.
Happy Holidays!
Paddy

Andy could look at the Ice men
Cpt Falcon Scott
Ernest Shackleton
Douglas Mawson
Some bloody bloke from Norway (Roald Amundsen)

English Man hauling
Norwegian using dogs.

problem they would be a one off sale for K&C and limited run not a legion of Romans.
But a great idea. I would love a set .

Heyde issued a great set of this event while it still was "News" - including ship, dogs etc.

Awesome Heyde set. Forgot about that. It wears well with age.
I love the original idea. But even Tommy Atkins only did a one-dog Mandan sleigh...
Still, Andy has been making some great pieces of animals recently, and has always made all forms of conveyance cool - so the dogs would be a treat.
Paddy (who is up - with Mom - and his crazy puppy who thinks she hears the call of wild every time she sees valuable things to chew on... and yes, this this USA Central Time...)
Anyway it's a good field for someone to remake. Mignot made an Arctic set. That Heyde set is now old, rare, and expensive.
Best Wishes of the Holiday Season, even more since we have lost many loved-ones this year; as too many have.
May We All Live through it!:salute::

P.S.
We have been considering purchasing Tommy Atkins' American NW coast series for over a decade. Why? Because it's a different New World People (and therefore rare) and those are always cool.
I still would bet on Incas being released by someone en-masse soon. Is there a legal betting pool? I'm in for a US Dollar.

I can't imagine a ship encased in ice...not at this moment! Andy in a Collector of many years ago explained why he didn't a Pirate range, just for that reason, you can't have a pirate without a ship (even if contrary to the myth pirate ships were sloop or little ship, but always too big to be reproduced!)! But the idea of an explorers' series remain for me feasible...after all Carter and Lord Carnarvon were "explorers" too (ok archeologists but in some way it is a similar thing) and the set is a beauty (on my wishlist, a wishlist so long that resembles the "cahiers de doleance"of the Third State in Revolutionary France).

Pretty big.^&grin

Of course, the ship would have to be Shackleton's Endurance, icebound from January 1915 through it's final crushing and sinking in November 1915. Maybe a little large for practical TS production but certainly possible to do Shack's camp and some personal engaged in various camp activities, football, etc. -- Al

I saw a diorama somewhere of a ship in ice and the sailors on the ice which looked really good.I'm pretty sure it was a smaller scale.Something different than what we are use to seeing.

I think what I saw was Franklin's expedition.
