All of you who make your own figures, I have this question. Do you have to scale up the figures to allow for shrinkage when molded? Or is the rtv rubber pretty good with shrinkage? Thanks

I've never had to scale up my masters and I do cast in RTV moulds.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if they needed to be a little larger. I checked out several RTV manufactureres and the better ones have a lot less shrinkage.

A certain amount depends on the metal you use. If you mix your own you might possibly find a degree of shrinkage, it is best to use a consistant commercial alloy. You should also try to avoid using castings as masters as shrinkage increases the more generations of castings you use. Another tip is to make a "dolly" figure and always use castings of that to produce your master patterns, that way you end up with a consistant size, this is why some maker's products vary wildly from figure to figure.

Trooper,
Thanks for the info. I am trying the "dolly" method and was not sure if I needed to scale up.
