Okay, here's the deal. There used to be no time limit. We had some people come on and use this "no time limit" to their advantage in a big heated discussion early in the history of the forum. They said rude and nasty things about a certain dealer and thought they would be backed up by a certain manufacturer. The manufacturer came on and sided with the dealer and when the posters realized the game was up they then turned around and changed their posts so that everything negative that was said was replaced by glowing praise. This wouldn't have been such a big deal except that several members had responded to the original posts defending the dealer and once the revised posts were in place it made the people responding to the originals look like they were totally attacking the "nice people saying all these complimentary things". In short, it made those members look like fools.
So I changed the time for editing to 30 minutes which should be more than enough time to post and then make sure it is how you want it. You can also use the preview post option to see exactly how your post will look before you ever post it.
But since I do get requests for a longer editing period I will acquiesce, unless it happens again. I have changed the settings to allow one hour to edit and have also changed the length of time to edit before it adds the "edited by..." tag to the post to 30 minutes. This will be nice if you just wanted to change a spelling error or something without having to explain it to the rest of the forum.
You can always have me or one of moderators edit for you after that.
If anyone abuses this longer editing time I will change that person's account settings back to a shorter time or remove the editing option completely. I want discussions to be fair and even-handed on this board. We currently have over 600 members strong and now, more than ever, our members need to stick to the forum guidelines and police themselves to keep things running smoothly.
If you have questions or comments about this or any other forum issue don't hesitate to contact me or any of the moderators.
