Erwin Rommel was Hitler's favorite general, a military marvel and the German Army's idol. He was also a morally conflicted high-ranking member of the Nazi Party, often refusing to carry out extreme orders and ultimately aiding an assassination plot against the Fuhrer. What happened? The truth about the Desert Fox reveals one of the most complex and intriguing figures of World War II. Join us as we trace his rise and fall through rare archival footage and interviews with Rommel biographers, historians, and the general's own family.

WWII and the Afrika Korps is not my collecting area but I do study and read a lot on the era.
Nick Cameron has a ton of Afrika Korps and many on Rommel books for sale on eBay .. you might want to check that out. --- Larry

I've read almost everything on Rommel worth reading...IMHO , i do not believe he intended or was advised about the plot to kill Hitler...
He did not believe the war as it was , could be won on german terms...Since he knew how Hitler felt , he did not believe Hitler would draw the same conclusion or be willing to listen to reason until germany was destroyed...I believe Rommel felt that Hitler should be pushed aside & somebody else should be put @ the helm...Whether it was for Hitler to be dismmissed or jailed , i don't believe Rommel cared...That is why he said he would be willing to be at the disposal of this new arrangement...He loved his country & hoped to spare it from destruction...But as in vogue as it may be for everybody to want to link him to the assasination attempt...IMO i don't believe it to be true...

I think there will not be anything forthcoming from these documentaries that will shed any light on what actually happened prior and during the bomb plot.

The frenzy that happened afterwards ensured that everyone who was nobody but, wanted to be a somebody jumped in with accusations and evidence that X Y and Z were in with the plot. so, they became important in the your either with us or against us mentality that had developed in the third Reich at the time.

What can be said about Rommel was that when times were good and they basically had their own way they followed their leadership. when times were not so good they moaned and groaned and, some went further into what is basically treason. Obviously, the west and some western historians love to make out that there is some hatred of the regime from within to add credence to ensuring the germans were bad and the allies good is upheld but, that some brave soles would stand up against the tyranny.

I believe from what I have read that he knew of the plot and did nothing so, in that time and era he was as guilty as Staufenburg and paid the price in a military dictatorship.

Mitch ,

After the war , Lucie Rommel said he had opposed assassinating Hitler . She (Lucie) & other's that were close to him , maintained that Rommel believed an assassination attempt would have sparked a civil war in Germany and Austria...
