This thread will showcase examples from the various glossy figures I have in my collection by a variety of makers. I will display individual figures, some from sets and others that are stand-alones in order to give them each "their moment in the sun". I hope you will enjoy seeing them. I will try to add new ones as often as possible.

My lower back MRI last week shows that I am dealing with 3 disc bulges in my lower spine with one of them impinging on a root nerve that impacts my right leg. Therefore, rather than my usual photo and scenic equipment in our basement, I am using a simple setup on our dining room table next to one of my toy soldier cabinets--hence the very basic approach to the material. I have missed posting on the forum so this is my compromise solution.

Randy, sorry to hear about your back, from a fellow sufferer. Hope you don't need surgery and thanks for taking the time.

Are some of these your favorites or just figures you decided to pick at random?

Get well.

Brad

Thanks Randy - your photos are unmistakeable - and much appreciated. Get fixed soon - johnnybach

Thank you Brad, Jack, John and Joe.

My choices are based upon subjects that appeal to me historically and/or the visual look of the figure.

You may have to resort to drugs Randy, anything that enables you to continue to post diorama's. All the best, hopefully these colourful figures are cheering you up, cheers, Robin.

I agree Randy. I've ordered three sets from him, including the Slave Market and the Abolitionists. Due here in April.

Hi Randy,

Thank you very much for posting these nice photographs of selected figures from your gloss collection. It is all the more appreciated as you are experiencing painful spasms in your right quadriceps muscle.

I really hope you can recover without having to undergo back surgery. If conservative treatment does not work, you may benefit from some form of decompression procedure.

All the Best, Raymond :)

Drummer
Compagnies franches de la Marine
French & Indian War
1754-1760
Maker: William Britain

I have been collecting figures from all the WB Classics (Redcoats, Bluecoats, FIW & Petticoats) series since they first appeared. In my opinion they are the most realistically sculpted and painted glossies on the market today. I love this colorful drummer with his fleur de lis decorated instrument.

Great figures, Randy. Appreciate you taking the time and effort to post while fighting back trouble. Had similar problems with blown L4-5 discs that caused nerve trouble in my right leg. Was able to get relief with a series of spinal shots at the sight of the problem. Hope you can cure it without cutting. Really like the French drummer and, of course, the SoW figure.:wink2: -- Al

Randy,

Everyone values the team player who contributes and plays while hurt. By you taking the time to set these up and sharing them with us while suffering through that back pain makes these pictures all the more appreciated. Thanks for staying in the game and continuing to play! These glossy figures look great and I look forward to seeing more as you're able to post them.

Mine too is the L4-L5 disc and it is my right leg that has been affected. What I haven't figured out is why I can go several days with no quad pain or today have 8 so far this morning, without having different activities than on the pain free days. Did your shots fix you permanently or was it temporary? My orthopedist suggested that if I go the cortisone route to have it done by an anesthesiologist.

Sailor with Banjo
Union Navy
American Civil War 1861-1865
Maker: Ted Deddens

The very talented Ted Deddens custom painted a 6 figure ACW Navy band for me (available in a variety of uniforms including Confederate}. Since Union ships often had mixed race crews I asked that the banjo player be done as an African American. There are a number of historic photos showing these navy bands aboard ship and several with African American banjo players. Minstrel shows were a common form of entertainment for the crews and both white and black sailors participated in these performances. Although racism was frequently present. the lot of the common sailor was often a hard one for any member of the crew. Herman Melville in his 1850 novel White Jacket or The World in a Man-of-War made a strong case against flogging in the USN at the time. For white sailors it was seen as similar to the use of the lash of slavery.

Legionnaire
French Foreign Legion
Tonkin China Circa 1895
Maker: Beau Geste

I like this figure because the French Foreign Legion was not only in North Africa at this time but also Asia. Tonkin China was the old name for Vietnam. If you have seen the Rodgers & Hammerstein's WWII musical South Pacific, 2 of the characters (Bloody Mary and her daughter Liat) are described as Tonkinese. French plantation owners like Emile de Becque (the male lead of the story) imported Tonkinese laborers from the French colony to work on their plantations.
