Medical figures are favorites of mine and I especially like the British WWI nurses. These nurses have been featured in films and television dramas such as Upstairs Downstairs & Downton Abbey.

Hi Randy.
Very nice to see you featuring single figures of your wonderful collection and I appreciate the bits of information you provide with each sample.
But I really do hope that you fully recover from your medical problems soon, so you can get back to work your excellent photo setups with all your equipment downstairs :wink2: ^&grin
All the best!

Thanks Konrad

I am having back therapy now to try to take pressure off the nerve root in my lower spine so we'll have to see how that goes. Right now it's also too cold in the basement :)

Per your request--a (simple) Victorian Vignette from the British Empire

"War Stories": An English and Highland officer compare notes on their recent experiences in the war zones of the Empire

Officers
Great Britain 1890s
Maker: Wm. Hocker

These are from one of my favorite Hocker series The Victorian Army At Ease. The subset is "Our Army Off Duty at Home"
I love these sets since they capture a mix of military and civilian figures from what Bill calls "Types of the British Empire". They are wonderful for storytelling about the daily lives of the British soldier when not engaged in battle. indeed a significant part of the time of soldiers of any era.

Flagbearer
King's African Rifles
British East Africa
WWI
Maker: Hiriart

This is a Hirart 2012 Special set of 9 figures including a British officer, a bugler and supply bearer. I am especially impressed with the sculpting of the face. The set makes a nice companion to the wonderful Beau Geste set of the same subject which I also own.

Hi Randy,
thank you for posting more of your nice collection, and especially for this one.
The two Hocker sets you mention here, are both most charming.

Another Victorian Vignette

"Baby Talk" Bridget and Fiona, nursemaids to families living on Berkeley Square exchange the latest gossip from their respective "Downstairs" worlds, while stopping at a nearby botanical garden.

Nursemaids
England 1890s
Maker: Wm. Hocker

From sets:

117 "Our Army Off Duty at Home"
228 "A Public Display"

Bill has a real flair for capturing life during the British Empire. These are from 2 of my favorite sets for telling that story.

Such a varied collection, it seems anything glossy is for you Randy. Know how you feel at the moment my back is stuffed also, seeing Chiro and about to finish it off today by playing tennis with the help of pills. Keep up displaying your wonderful collection, cheers, Robin.

My PT is using the Mckenzie Method (Robin McKenzie of New Zealand) to try to get my disc bulge to stop pinching the nerve. He has also been doing traction.

"Naval Rivals": The Influence of Sea Power on Victorian Boys 1890

In 1890 American naval strategist Alfred Thayer Mahan published his influential book The Influence of Sea Power Upon History, 1660-1783.
This little vignette translates the phenomenon to the English seaside where 2 boys dressed in the typical sailor suits worn by 19th Century children ask their parents why they too cannot have a sailboat like the boy they have just met on the beach.

Sets: 117, 228 and 320

I wish more companies would make civilian figures that can be used with or without military ones. They really add to the period flavor.

"The Senorita & The Soldier" Cuba 1898

During the American occupation of Cuba at the time of the Spanish American War, a local beauty chats with a U. S. Infantry Private.

I love the W. Britain Bluecoats & Petticoats lines. I hope they will add more to these lines to fill in the historic gaps. I would also like to see them add some civilian men and children and would really like to see the history of the American and British navies told in this format.

Figures W. Britain
43122 Private, U.S. Regular Army, 1898-1902
60007 "Sarah" in Walking Suit with Straw Boater, 1895
Trees: Wilson Edward
